Every time I pick up SportRider, I am amazed by the quality of information this magazine provides. The 2012 liter bike comparison was a huge test. Eight bikes, a total breakdown on everything from Tech numbers, to track times and street performance. I was most interested in the BMW's weaker electronics rating when compared to the Kawasaki in the 2012 comparison, and the fact that BMW added wheelie control to slick mode  (ouch). I wonder if the 2013 model will have the wheelie control smoothed out or reduced or even removed from slick. To me, it sounds like that may have made the final difference in the end for Kent  as he chose the ZX10 over the S1000RR.

The new BMW HP4 (the, um..."high performance version" of the S 1000 RR...) has had the DTC's wheelie control changed to make it much more transparent than the 2012 S 1000 RR's decidedly heavy-handed intervention. It's very likely that the 2013 S 1000 RR will have basically the same changes to its electronics.

Do you think wheelie control is warranted in slick mode? I've been considering the s1000rr since it came out in 2010. It now appears that the electronics are becoming more integrated in the s1000rr each year.. Initially, you could buy the bike without any electronics, now I believe ABS and TC are standard and things like wheelie control in "slick" is not optional either. I favor the idea of having all of these electronics available, but with the option to turn them on and off. The Ducati 1199 has how many Levels of TC? Are these electronics becoming more than most riders care for, or need? I am not sure, but I was a little disappointed to learn about the wheelie control in Slick mode on the BMW. I know it sounds petty, but I just don't like the idea that BMW is deciding how I experience the bike i.e. My comfort level. Is it enough to sway me from picking up the S1000RR for 2013? Maybe. One thing  for sure, is that I'd like to have more control over the electronics.

The wheelie control in slick mode was never optional; it was always there to some extent. And it's apparent that BMW realized that the wheelie control in slick mode with the 2012 model was too heavy-handed (why they went that direction we'll probably never know).

We agree though, it's better to have the option to turn off in all rider aid electronics. Basically like the Aprilia RSV4....
