I volunteered to help a friend replace leaking fork seals on his newly purchased bike (7500 miles on it).He has the seals, fork oil ready to go.My most recent experience with forks, was this spring, putting Gold Valves, bushings, seals in a Showa adjustable fork on my Ducati 900SS.Are both these forks similar to dissassemble(both Showa)?Researching a bit, some places it looks like you would compress the spring, remove the coupler just below the top adjuster cap, remove the cap, spring, dust seal, retainer, then "slide hammer" the seal out, like on my fork.Other places show removing the whole cartridge, after removing the bottom bolt, then "slide hammer " the seal out.The second way may require a cartridge holding tool ,so if anyone has any tips on replacing these seals I would appreciate them. Thanks,Tom

I think it's possible to "slide hammer" the fork seal out once you disconnect the fork cap and remove the dust seal, circlip, etc, but I wouldn't recommend it, mostly because the chances of any debris falling into the slider and contaminating the cartridge are high. You're much better off removing all internal components before attempting to remove the fork seal.

I didn't consider getting debris in the cartridge in that way,I suppose there's six years worth of wear particles on the bottom of the fork that should be cleaned out. I agree, removing the cartridge/internals is the way to do it.Thanks for the help, Tom
