I recently purchased a complete front end off of a 2009 Suzuki B-King. It is a 43mm KYB inverted single cartridge with both compression and rebound adjusters (fitted with Nissin radial calipers). I want to use the forks and brakes on another motorcycle. In order to do this I need to replace the steering stem. I have not been able to remove the original stem from the bottom triple tree. I thought that I could press it out from the bottom, however, it will not budge. I supported the tree (upside down) on a 3" OD aluminum tube and pressed against the base of the stem (from the bottom side). If I press any harder I am afraid that something will break! I have removed the dust cap and lower bearing race from the stem and it does not appear to be threaded into the lower triple tree. I have not tried heating it yet. Can anyone enlighten me on how to remove this steering stem from the bottom tree??

Most stems have a circlip near the bottom and the triple clamp is counterbored slightly. Push the clamp through from the top and you'll probably see the circlip.

AT, thank you so much! I pressed the stem from the top side and immediatley exposed the circlip. Removed the circlip and pressed the stem from the tree. My project can now move forward again. BB
