Hey guys, I was wondering has anyone used the bluetooth communication devices by Blutekonnekt, or bluetek? I am wanting to get a bluetooth device for my helmet and i am trying to decide between either getting a helmet that is already bluetooth integrated or getting a system and putting it into my own helmet. By the way i am not interested in chatterbox because of it being so bulky. Thanks for your insight

Have you taken a look at the Chatterbox XBi2 bluetooth unit? When you say "so bulky", you're probably referring to the older X1 unit; the XBi2 is about the size of a pack of chewing gum, and it's easy to install. It also has the advantage of using more current A2DP technology- which many other bluetooth-equipped helmets don't use- allowing you to communicate with a variety of devices.
The problem with a bluetooth-integrated helmet is that you're stuck with the helmet, and most of the bluetooth helmets are of the "flip-up" chinbar variety, which aren't the best with regards to chinbar protection.

I have looked at the chatterbox and it is still bulkier than i like, and you are right with the flip-up helmets which i do not want in the least, however i have found 3 types that rather fit what i am looking for but have no idea on quality. The ones that i found are "element Fastrack", "Blutech helmets and communicators", and "Hawk's Apollo helmet". Thanks again for all your help

All of those helmets use a bluetooth pod that is exactly the same size as the Chatterbox XBi2, so I don't see where bulk would be an issue.
You also need to take into consideration that when purchasing a BT-integrated helmet, not only are you stuck with the helmet and its quality, but also the BT system as well. If it has problems pairing up with other devices, or whether the microphone works, or whether the speakers are of decent quality. At least with a component system like the Chatterbox, you have easy, quick, and very knowledgeable tech support a phone call or email away. Not so sure the same could be said for any foreign-made BT-integrated helmet, which are usually only distributed here by an importer (Chatterbox is located in California, so any technical or warranty issues can quickly be handled).

I have not looked into these devices at all. I see that they are about $200 on ebay and they come in singles, right? Not a pair?

Correct, for both BT-equipped helmets and BT-capable devices like the Chatterbox XBi2.

Thanks guys for your insight, i did go ahead and purchased the blutekonnekt wireless communicator by blutek and must say that i am quite pleased with it, the device is extremely small and has a good interface as well as having a 300ft radius and 15hr. of battery life. The only downside of it is that the speakers are rather junky but overall not to bad. Thanks again for your help.
