Does anyone know what size the D9EA or D8EA plug is? I was looking to get a conmpression tester for my 86 Ninja 600R. I have one but it does not have a fitting small enough. If any one knows the mm of those plugs I can make sure the tester I buy will work on it. I bought the bike last weekend. Guy said shop told him low compression in #2 cylinder and needs rings. I want to check it my self to see if it is rings or a burnt valve or? The bike dont seem to smoke. Do bikes smoke like cars that have worn rings? Any help would be apreiciated.

NGK D9EA should be a 12mm thread if I'm not mistaken.
A bike with worn rings might smoke, but a lot depends on other factors, not just the piston rings. The only way to really determine the cause of low compression is to take the engine apart. Otherwise you could be looking at a number of causes, i.e., scored cylinder/piston, broken ring, burnt/warped valve, etc.
