My buddy who i grew up riding with, who has a bike but a 600 also says once i get my bike i would be fine. but I would like a little bit more advice just others opionis about my decision . regaurdless ill probably buy the bike i am in love with . While street bikes have two wheels and an engine just like dirt bikes, the similarities end there. Not only are the average speeds higher, but you don't have to deal with errant automobile drivers when riding off-road. Street bikes' braking and handling dynamics are different from dirt bikes because of the grip from the tires, requiring a learning process to understand the higher front brake capabilities and ingrain it into your muscle memory so your reactions will be based on street bikes, not dirt bikes.
Put it this way: What you're doing now is like a newb jumping onto 450 for his first dirtbike learner. Sure, if you ride "within your limits", you'll hopefully stay out of trouble and learn to stay upright, but will you learn much about how to get the most out of that bike?

I agree with kento, not to say that you previous experience won't be helpful, the basic skills are the same leaning when turning ,balance, hand controls ect. but the fine skills are very different. I know where you are coming from I started in motocross but sport bikes are a different animal the steering is much sharper, the motorcycle will be heavier ect. In short it is more finesse than force you can't throw a street bike around like a dirt bike. A msf course or instuction from a accomplished rider would be a good idea. good luck and keep it shiny side up
There are worse things than death cowardice is one of them.

A lot of first time or newer riders go out and buy a liter bike, and after riding it for a few weeks or a month, they "test it". Seems like a good idea at the time, but you can never afford to get "comfortable" on a liter bike early in the game. A liter bike (any liter bike) makes alot more low end torque than a 600. You have to be much smoother on the gas while exiting a corner with a liter bike. There are several roads out by my house that are great roads for learning how to corner properly because they are considered "industrial roads". There is almost never any traffic and the factories along the roads maintain them. I recommend that you try to look around and try to find a couple of roads like these to better experiment and discover good cornering throttle control or even schedule some track time to really get to know your bike. I did and I am a little better for it. All I'm saying is be VERY careful with that big Kaw, they are fast as hell.
