Why the shroud of secrecy on buying a bike??

I have been doing a bit of research (actually A LOT) on buying a new bike and I have narrowed it down to 3, the Yamaha FZ6, Suzuki Gladius and Kawasaki Versys (or the ER-6N).

So here is my question:  Why is purchase pricing NEVER discussed ANYWHERE?

Example: I went into Yamaha dealership last weekend to look at an FZ6R, MSRP of $7,090, went back and forth, back and forth pricing.  Ultimately said not interested, got up to walk out then the manager ran over and said he could sell the bike at $5,999 and he could cut the delivery & build fee in half.

Is that a good deal compared to the open market?  Why is there no place to ask that and compare that to what others are getting?

The only pricing info I can find is dealer MSRP and KBB & NADA used pricing guides.  Here are problems with KBB & NADA, they base their pricing on a calculation from new MSRP not actual avg. market purchase price.

When you buy a car you can get TONS of info on what others are paying, what invoice costs are, what cost you can avoid and what are negotiable.  NOTHING for motorcycles… why is that?  Does a site exist for motorcycles like Edmonds does with cars??

For me when it comes down to it, I wold really go with any of the bikes I listed but I would want the lowest ACTUAL price, NOT MSRP pricing.

So, any advice besides going into every dealership and negotiating pricing for every single bike?  These guys won't even negotiate over email.

The reason you don't see motorcycle "shopping" sites like Edmunds.com and the like is because the volume of bike sales is miniscule compared to automobiles. For instance, you don't see a street full of bike dealers in nearly every city and town like you do with automobiles. Also, the amount of money that changes hands with bikes is comparatively far less than automobiles. Thus, the competition to get your money is far less with bikes, so there's not a horde of dealers looking to undercut each other just to get your sale.

This means you're going to have to do the footwork of pitting dealers against one another to help your negotiations.

Another contributing factor to the lack of information on this subject is that the majority of buyers are much younger than automobile buyers, so they're not as organized when it comes to keeping track of purchase price and other costs.

The only place where you can find out "what others are paying" are bulletin boards and forums, and the responses you get there need to be taken with a grain of salt.
