I am looking to purchase my first motorcycle but need some extra opinions on what would be best. I have taken the MSF class and have some experience riding my brother-in-laws Honda CBR1000, yes he is a good brother, I got the same reaction from the teachers of the class. I am comfortable riding it but would prefer something smaller. He recommends a 600 of various types and used for my first one.

*Edit* During the MSF class the main problem I had was getting the Honda Nighthawk 250 bike back into neutral but even the teachers said that may be a problem with that particular type, this is never a problem on my brother's Honda.

I was very comfortable with the slow maneuvers(I did not find the figure 8 U-turns to be a problem) and i plan on practicing more when i can. For the final riding test the only part I was marked down points for was turning, they said i went to slow.

Your best bet for a first motorcycle (in no particular order):

Kawasaki Ninja 250R
Kawasaki Ninja 500R
Kawasaki Ninja 650R
Suzuki SV650
Suzuki Gladius (probably hard to find used)
Yamaha FZ6R (probably hard to find used)
Yamaha FZ6

Do some research to see which one fits your budget and what you're looking for. Hope that helps.
