I found that my 2001 996 was leaking fuel all over the garage. Last time I had it out everything was fine. After pulling the tank I found the fuel was leaking from, what I can only assume is the fuel pump hex fittings. Has anyone with a 916/996/998 had this issue?

Wow, never seen that before, I am going to check my fittings now. I have seen the "quick release" fittings leak on the bikes that the owners just couldn't leave alone, but I have yet to see the pump fittings give out.
Good luck with the repair!

Re; Fuel leak on my 996, After a frantic search I have found that there were a couple of different changes made by the manufacturer in this area. The "fix" is to replace the sending unit and o-ring as a unit as the nut is not available seperate. Cost will be @$200.00 and a headache! I did not know at the time of my last post if this fitting was captured from the inside or not. Turns out the plastic nut in my application has a tendancy to break. I carefully reached into the recess in the bottom of the tank and was able to tighten mine @ 1/8 to 1/4 turn. I detected no cracks but that doesn't mean one's not there. The leak HAS stopped but I'm still wary of the outcome of my endeavors. I would suggest everyone look under the tank to see if they have a plastic nut or a brass one and keep an eye on it as the o-ring has a tendency to swell.

I have noticed mine leak for a while now but thought it was just a hose, i took it apart and found the same thing leaking. I am thinking of cleaning it up and applying clear silicone for a quick fix. Have you fixed this problem if so how did you do it? Actually just reading the post above, my leak looks to be coming from the welded area that connects the hex bracket to the tank.

I just made up 40 aluminum nuts (8 are spoken for), that replace the plastic nut. It is made from 6061-T6 Aircraft aluminum, Black anodized with safety wire hole. I just did a search and this site came up. I have been active on Ducatims and Ducatispot using yellow blur as a call. I have just offered them on Ducatims. on this thread http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=65886 if you care to see it. The nut can be removed without removing the sender (less fuel the better)but the connector needs to be disassembled and I also provide a PDF on how to do it.
If interested you can private message me or email me @ ld-sld50@att.net if serious and I’ll give you the details if you care to know more. Many times less then a new sender. This is a top quality retaining nut.
Hope I can help out. My bike is a 2000 996, and I believe this same sender is used on many other Ducati’s, but I do not know which ones. It is a 36mm hex(30mm x 1.5 thread).
Thought I’d let you know.
