Nice thats considered vintage 20 years old. your motor oil and trans oil are one in the same just do an oil change on it. Buy a service manual...get the true factory one from kawi if you can but any is better than none. Since it's so old. change the oil then clean the shifter lever and all linkage going to it WD 40 works great. It's an old bike you may have some warm parts but it could also be a worn out ...bent... out of adjustment shift rod. after you clean it up and ride it again be real firm on the shifts even the newer kawasaki's dont like weak shifts. What exactly do mean sticks ?

A bike this old will have a history. Let's start at ground zero. Are you "hot" to the starter switch? Are you hot everywhere else you need juice? This sounds like a classic case of a old bike that needs love. Don't give up! The problem will be minor. Keep looking! Buy a decent voltmeter and chase the problem down.

Admittedly wiring or continuity issues are one of the hardest things in the trouble shooting world. It takes a little time and patience but, it can be fixed! Once you get the bike running, and you will, do yourself a favor and ohm the coils. They'll need it! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Make sure the plug wires are hooked up to the correct cylinders.
