Here is the short list:

Suzuki Katana
Suzuki SV650
Suzuki GS500 (if you are buying new)
Kawisaki Ninja 500 (if you are buying new)

It really depends on the year of the bike as well.  New 600s, which have over 100hp, are no joke, and can highside you like an old ZX9 or cbr900 could if you open the throttle too early.  If you are looking to ease into a 600, an older re:1999 or so one will have less power, and thus easier power band to deal with.

Finally, you can get better gear if you get an older bike, and I would recommend that to any rider.

Stay safe,

Jeremy

I been riding dirt bikes and atv's for some time now. My first street bike is a brand new 2008 Ninja ZX6R and I am loving it. Just ride within your limits and you should be good and don't get too confident, just take it easy and leave the rest for the track.

Suzuki GS500 Bandit, any year.  The cheaper the better.  Move up after a year.  By then you will  know if m/c riding is for you.
