how can you tell when you are reaching the traction limit of the rear tire in a curve before it starts to slide??

To start and for the record, I have about 2800 miles of experience, so I don't know if this will answer your question. However, I believe I've been close to the limit of traction on a couple occasions. The sensation I get is a slipping feeling on the tires. I felt that the tire was not gripping as hard as normal. Everytime I've felt this I have been going at a moderate speed (35-45 mph). This is most likely because I love the feeling of getting in a deep lean. This has only happen a couple of times and it was easy to correct going at slow speeds.
You'll know when you get to the edge of traction. If you haven't felt anything irregular, then you haven't been close.
