I have an 1997 Suzuki GSX-R600 that looses power if I hold it at speeds above 100mph. Then as soon as I pull the clutch in, the engine dies completely. It's not every time though. Oh, and sometimes if I throttle it after this happens, I might get a little burst of energy but it will surely die. But whenever this happens all I have to do is pull over to the side of the road and start it back up again. Sometimes it takes a little longer to start but usually it will start right back up again. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel issue. Does it do if you are cruising at 70 or 80 for long times ? Because it starts up and runs fine it doesnt sound like a hard failure. More like it's just choking out. Start simple i take it your bike has carbs and maybe an inline fuel filter? if so change it. Same thing if you have a filter sock in the tank. Also check your fuel line and make sure it is floating free not sitting up against the engine or anything. Although very rare even more so on a bike you could be vapor locking. The fuel may be turning to vapor before it gets to the carbs at that speed and temp. If thats the case you need to wrap your fuel line in heat wrap. May as well replace your air filter if have not. Other than that i think your going to be throwing darts until you can get it on a dyno and reproduce the issue. Good luck

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be my kickstand! So I cut safety switch wires and connected them together! Problem Solved!!

I had this exact same problem and it was the fuel pump is running slow, you end up using more fuel than it is supplying so you empty the carb float bowls. when you switch off and start up again it refills them and it will run ok until you ride fast and you are demanding more fuel than it can supply so you effectively run out of fuel. check ebay for a new fuel pump or check the flow it should give you flow rate in the haynes manual. It is about 1 litre a minute i think.

Thanks everyone! I took the fuel tank off and found two problems. A hose running to one of the carbs from the air box wasn't attach and the fuel filter screen had some dirt in it. Runs great now!

I have an 01 Busa and I experience a similar problem. Once the bike has warmed up on my trips to work Ive noticed that between 80 to 90 miles per hr. my bike will shut down but as long as the throttle is still open it will catch back up to speed in a 40 mile trip it will do this intermittenly about 6 or 7 times anyone have any suggestions.

I found out that my kickstand was lowering itself throughout the ride, especially when i hit bumps in the road.
