i'm a noobie myself, looking to get that first bike in a long time and figuring on getting a 250. i've been doing some research and have found 3 that are interesting: 1) ninja 250r, 2) hyosung gt250r and 3) the um v2s-250r. actually, the hyosung and the um are the same thing, just different names (think ford & mercury). from what i've seen/read, the ninja 250r is a better quality bike (i.e. better built, better handling) than the others and it costs at least $500 less. i plan on getting one as soon as i can find one.

The Ninja has a huge support community and better reliability reputation at this point. The 2008 version is really sharp looking and you will have multiple offers the day you put it up for sale.
Two technical differences may also tip you toward the Ninja. It's liquid cooled and has a 6-speed transmission; the Hyosung is air/oil cooled and has a 5-speed transmissions.
Get the Ninja - it's the safer (and way better looking IMO) choice.
Good luck either way though. Smart choice to get a 250 as a first bike - you won't be disappointed.

ok i figured that, the only things that i really like is the hyosung looks better(imo) and it is built like a 600 style bike( size wise), and dont quote me on that thats wat i heard. but the ninja has(like u said )movement behind them. but either way i go i know im gonna be doing this for a long time.
Ps. this is just my thinking .... but either way i go im going to move up to a bigger bike sooner or later.

If you plan on getting a larger bike sooner or later you might want to look at the EX500 (Ninja) It's a great bike my wife started out on a 93 EX500 and then after getting a CBR F4I she went back to a 2004 EX500 and if you want to make it sing good after you have logged so time on it you can get the 2 into 1 stainless/aluminum muzzy exhuast system and a jet kit with K&N filter it really wakes the bike up compared to stock. The reason i suggest the EX500 over the 250 is if you plan on doing any long rides and possibly any rides in the hills it won't bog like the 250..Just my opinion
