Ok guy's first of i just wanna let you know that i'm not trying to start a discussion war lol, i'm just rather curious.

Ducati claims their 848 to be the new middleweight king.

What do you guy's consider a "middleweight to be"

I thought middleweights purely consited of 600 class bikes or around that range, "over 500 under 700".

Are middleweights classed by

-Weight
-Displacement
-Power

And can someone someone tell me why that twins are allowed to have larger displacement and be considered in a smaller classe than there displacment.

If Ducati's 848 is in fact classed as a "middleweight", then there is no doubt that it will have no competition in next year middleweight war, if price isnt a deciding factor that is

I personnaly feel that it should be compared to suzuki's 750, as it "claims" to have around the same amount of power.

So what do you guy's think, am i totaly seing this the wrong way, just thought this would be an interesting topic?

I think it's a marketing gimmick. And to bridge the gap in the bike classes. A lot of guys want more power than a 600 can put out, but don't want to sacrifice to much, if any weight. If they can get enough cash together, the 848 is the perfect solution.

I think the 848's are racing against the 600's in WSBK supersport or something like that. I remember seeing them somewhere. They weren't winning either.
