New to the GSXR scene- have questions!!

ok, so i recently bought a 2003 GSX-R1000 off a guy that i work with.  when i bought it had been sitting for quite a few months, so it ran really rough.  i've changed the spark plugs, oil, and adjusted the idle with the help of a friend.  one of the biggest issues i am having now is that it doesn't just idle at 1100rpm's....when i am stopped the idle will go up and down from 1100-1500 rpm's constantly.  what the hell is goin on with the idle???  what is causing the variation at idle??  any help is good help!!  

i had a problem with my idle as well. i bought a 91 750 katana that had been sitting for about 9 months or more, my idle went up and down, my buddy cleaned out my carbs and it worked beutifuly, also try running with a little denatured alcohol in the gas (for 5 gallons i would put a cup of alchol) it will run hotter but it will also clean the crap out of your lines. also check the tank for rust, it will affect it a little.  

your bike is FI so you should have a quick adjuster right under the frame clutch side that you can turn with your fingers try to dial it in with that. Make sure you dont have any computer adds.You could have a vacum leak. you fill it up with fresh gas yet ? when you did the tune up and pull the tank did the throttle bodies look clean. Also they all bounce around aliitle.Also on most of these bikes if you overfill the tank when you gas up they will run like chit for a while. Dont fill above the lowest lip in the tank
Pull your seat and check the hoses comming off the tank they rip easy and most times you can just snip the end reinstall.  

i appreciate ya'lls insight.  also, when i am at low rpm's in first gear my bike will jerk until i go above about 20mph.  do ya'll know anyting about that??  

is that before you fixed the rpm problem?
