What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of purchasing either of these bikes (GSX-R750\GSXR1000)? After months of research I narrowed my choices down to these two bikes. I have read a number of your comments on the sport bike forums and would like to get some rider feedback in regards to this. Maybe one of you know someone who was in this situation and learned something from it that you can pass onto me. Thank for any thoughts?

What are you going to use the GSXR for? Racing?,weekend rides, everyday? I know in Ca. the insurance quote would sometimes make my choice. You can't lose either way. How long do you keep motorcycles? resale may be a reason. I really am a 750 type rider, but if I had the choice, the 1000 would be my pick. Jeff.

Thank you for your reply.
I live in Upstate NY. I will be keeping this one for close to forever. Weather permitting, snow and all that, I plan ride almost everyday. I also plan to take nice weekend rides because I work during the week and when I get on the bike first thing in the morning I'm better prepared for the ride. I've been to safety courses, but haven't hit the track yet. I curently, last ride on 1-26-08, ride a 06 CBR 600 rr. Those two hour rides are interesting, lol. I want to stay on a sport bike. The 1000 has adjustable foot pegs that might help with that a little. I hope.

Man, talk about Ironman! I can't see you really riding a GSXR in bad weather. There are other bikes I can think of that may be more "user friendly" for your climate and taste. (example any BMW or ZX14 sport touring model). Good luck! Very tough decision. Riding a GSXR everyday is like taking the Ferrari to work everyday. Jeff

I live in southern Ontarioand own a K5 1000 and I would not trade it for the world. The adjustable pegs on the k7 is a great option. Long rides not so good on the 1000 but for the little extra money it for sure beats the 750. my .02

I'm listening. Thanks. Yeah, the weather is not all that great right now. Even when it clears up and the sun is out I don't try to ride hard because the streets good and cold. I'd ride out for an hour or so get a cup a joe out of town then get back. Just enough to scratch that itch you know.

I ride a 06 GSX-R 1000 (Full Yoshi exhaust, PC-3, K&N filter, Suzuki Gel Seat)everyday, unless I have to pick something up or drop the kids somewhere. I'm 6' tall, 195 lbs and the stock rearsets fit fine. I ride 1 hour oneway to and from work, and recently took a trip from my home in South Georgia to Tampa, Florida (300 miles/600 round trip). I wouldn't trade the 1000 for any other bike, however I do have to say riding this bike requires all your attention all the time. If your looking for a bike to tour with there are better choices. I would suggest getting a Gel Seat though, and watch the power on cold tires and damp roads.
Just my .02

Your replys are encouraging because I din't know if riders were on their GSX-R1000s like that. I plan to ride about half of what you stated, on average. I planned to get a gel seat. I saw a bike (GSX-R1000)with one in SSB magazine and they look comfortable. I'm waiting for a couple of insurance reps to get back to me then I'm all set. I've been getting quotes from $507- $2,200 a year for full coverage. Those numbers are a ride in themselves, lol. Thanks

Don't know if you already picked one up yet. I had a 07 600 for awhile and just got an 07 1000 gsxr and do the same thing you talked about doing. I go for rides on the weekends and usually with the girlfriend. Not horrible, but I'm young. As for riding it back and forth to work I only live about 2 miles away so it's completely overkill. I just like the bigger motor with that little bit extra torque just because I usually do have a passenger and I still like to get up and go. Good luck.

DUDE GET A 750 GIXXER. DONT LISTEN TO THESE IDIOT WHO BUY 1000CC AND HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF POWER IT PRODUCES. 1000CC ARE NO JOKE, AND IN MOST CASES ARE USELESS UNLESS YOUR A PRO ON A TRACK. MY BUDDY HAS A 1000CC AND I HAVE GIXXER 750, AND I RAPE HIM. I CAN RIDE A 750 GIXXER FASTER AND HARDER THAN I CAN RIDE A 1000CC. EVERYONE GETS A 1000CC TO ACT LIKE THEY GOT BIG BALLS WHEN WE ALL KNOW ITS SMALL.

Rode k6 750 and 1000 on local bendies. IMO go with the 750. It is far from underpowered, lighter and more forgiving. If you like turns and being about to throw your bike around the 750 is the perfect mix. That class of bike is up and coming! They are racing ninja and suzuki 800's, ducati has its new 848, the triumphs 675. ride safe.
