My '04 ZX12R uses NGK Lazer Platinium plugs. One mechanic says OK to upgrade to Iridium that has same heat range, another says coils are not strong enough to fire plugs cleanly. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm not familiar with the lazer platinum plugs, but have not had a single good expierience with platinum plugs.  The iridium plugs just plain burn better.  be prepared to adjust your idle speed because it will increase.  I have used iridium plugs on both my 2000 r1 and 2005 hayabusa.  Both required an idle adjustment after installation.   Both run very well.  I believe they do burn better.  I have not however verified any horse power increase with dyno runs on either bike.  The denso plugs are more expensive than the ngk plugs.  About 15.00 a plug for the denso plugs and 12-13.00 for the ngk.

From what i understand a platinum plug is just a standard plud with an extra coating to extend service intervals. i'm sure they will work fine, and they are upgraded standard plug and they dont last like advertised. Irdium plugs are the new thing out and proven superior. I would go Iridium. i have an 03 kawi and the plugs are Iridium. They sell for 4.98 retail. I would get the direct replacement iridium
