EngineMCN rating Owners' rating A measured 109.61bhp at the back wheel made the Kawasaki ZX-6R the most powerful 600 in our recent group test. You have to keep the Kawasaki ZX-6R motor singing to get the most out of it above 9,000rpm ideally, but revving it to its 16,000rpm redline sends shivers down your spine.

I've had my 2003 ZX6R for about 6 weeks. I turn about the same, roughly 7k RPM at 80mph in 6th gear. It does sound a little wound up, but not out of the ordinary. That should be normal, b/c I believe that they peak at appx. 165mph at appx.14k rpm. Since 165/2=82.5, and 14k/2=7k, thats right about in line with the top end limits from the factory.

I recently bought a new 07 ZX6R, how high can I really get the revs in the break in period? without doing any damage that is! Thanks

i have had a 636 since 03 and 7000 rpm is cruise mode.with the stock sprockets almost on que in first and second around 11 12000 rpm the front end will come off the ground. I also drop down one profile size on the front tire and it still does it.coming off a red light left hand turn it got real light and i skipped a lane lol oops.Maybe my motor is blown but i have no issues hitting the factory shift light which is red line through third gear say on a freeway on ramp. as i mentioned earlier dropping a profile on the front with these bikes is a good idea although you sacrofice some comfort. The only issue i have had with the bike is the cam chain tensioner put in a manual runs sweet.

does the zx-6r have a rev limitor? if so what rpm is it at? i havent wound out my bike i dont think, i usually shift around 6 grand every gear but sometimes it may go higher, i know it can handle alot of power to the engine im just worried to do it. any help or tips, comments is appreciated. how do you go through the gears?

as far as a rev limiter all i could tell you there is if it does it's a good deal into the redline. i know i have seen my tack cross the red line, and on those few times. as far as a rev limiter while riding all i have felt is the power just goes flat at a certain point per gear and gives you no more but i didnt feel or hear anything like a limiter. so if there a limiter it is in the red. yea theres no need to pin it but as a previous post said the true power band is somewhere between the 9000 and 15000 rpm range.and dont rev it in your driveway to red line thats the fastest way to granade a piston on anything.

as far as shifting if not in heavy traffic i'm shifting around 10,000 rpm i would think. i blip it out a hair in every gear.best thing you can do is ride the bike in your safe zone it will come.as far as normal corning your best control is comming from being in the right gear.you can see what i'm talking about on a normal road with a good long sweeping turn, just ride it as you always do while in the turn let the gas off you feel the bike cut in harder towards the center line put the gas back and you will pull back to outside. so if you have a nice turn that you take at 40 or 50 try in one gear lower than normal chances are you wont even need brake to correct.
