hey i am needing advice on what to get like most new riders.  although i am new to street bikes i am not new to this world. i have ridden dirt bikes for about 10 yrs but also know that there is a major difference between dirt bikes and the street bikes. what i have is a yamaha 125cc dirt bike.

what i am wanting to know is would the new rider advice still be helpful for me by starting on a 250 or 500 or could i begin on a more higher cc bike like an early to mid 90s 600cc bike. what im looking at is a mid 90s kawasaki zx6r bike.

please help me. any advice is appreciated.

thanks.

I started out on an '85 Ninja 600R with a few performance mods on it without having any previous experience with motorcycles.  Haven't had a major problem yet.  Just dropped the bike from the unexpected weight of the bike, and that was only the first week.  If you've ridden dirt bikes for 10 years, I'd say you're well ahead of me.  Just remember to ride within your ability.

Having ridden both dirt and street bike myself I can tell you major difference. The way you lean a dirt bike, you try to stay more on the top side of a dirt bike. With a street bike you want to lean over with the bike. That is hard to get used to at first. On a dirt bike you stick your foot out and slide to the opposite side of the turn. You do not want to do this with a street bike. On a dirt bike you will also have to change your braking habits. At least I know I did. When I rode dirt bikes I used the back brake most of the time as most dirt riders do. With a street bike you have to get used to using the front brake. On a street bike the back brake is 0 to 30% of your braking power. 70 to 100% on the front.

You should be able to handle a 600cc bike but it is different so take your time learning the bike and how different it handles. You may want to practice counter steer also, it can save your life.
