I just cant narrow it down. what comes first? looks? performance? comfort? single cyl. supermoto, or inline 4 screamer? what about the torque of a nice twin or triple? ive owned several bikes of various types, my last being an '02 gsxr1k. i live in the desert, will do most of my riding around town by myself, with the occasional cruise with my wife and friends on the open road. id love a supersport, but the wife wont ride on one. i guess im really looking for a do-all bike, and ill have to make a sacrifice in one area or another. that new 690 Duke is so sweet looking though! any suggestions would be nice, in the $8-11k range.

If you are looking for a do all.  I would check out the SV1K.  Naked if you are looking for passengers.  The S model is so sweet looking though.  To boot if you look hard enough you can pick one up for $6K and put the other $2k into it or buy your wife something nice, yeah right get yourself some kit.
