Just wondering what you guys think of this bike. The Ninja Zx-6r, i have only rode a few times on a 250. But i was debating on the ninja or the Gsx 600 which one would be better to start on? thanx

Most of the people here are going to tell you to start with a ninja 500 or somethign instead since it seems you are new to riding. Here is my eperience though.

When I went and bought my EX500 I wanted to make sure I got a bike that was powerful enough for my highway commute, but that wouldn't get away from me too easily. The Ninja 500 in my opinion was the best looking bike that fit that description, it doesn't GRAB my attention though. While I was looking at bikes though I saw the plasma blue ZX-6R and fell in love with the look/color of it. During the 3 or 4 hours I was at the dealership where I bought my bike I detoured past that ZX-6R at least a dozen times to admire it.

For the most part I am happy with my 500, and from a purely pragmatic view it was probably the best bike for me to buy to learn on. However I still wish I had gone ahead and got the ZX-6R even though I would have had to ride more carefully due to it having over twice the HP, and way more powerful brakes.(ZX-6R uses dual disk brakes on the front iirc.) So basically my opinion is this; get an old used 500 ride it for awhile to get used to controlling a bike in traffic, then sell it for close to what you paid for it and buy the ZX-6R. If I could have afforded to pay cash for a bike instead of getting it financed I would have gone that route. As is I have to wait till I pay down a bunch more on my 500 or I lose an assload of money to trade up.

my 2003 zx-6r is my first bike.  there is no arguing that it has a buttload of power, much more than i need.  after i bought it i realized that it didnt really matter what kind of bike i bought, as the important thing is just to get on the road on 2 wheels, regardless of whether its a 'cool' bike or what not.  i'm finding that the only people that dog your bike, or talk trash about it, are the people that don't ride a bike anyways.  they are the dummy camaro z28 drivers who talk about how they would by a ducati 1098 if they were to buy a bike (which would never happen anyways, since their mom wouldnt let them).  but yeah, the 636cc ninja is very very very fast, i normally don't turn anymore than 8,000 rpm, since i don't feel like i could control the bike under any more power, nor can i really process information in my head fast enough to drive at breakneck speeds or under breakneck acceleration.

I also have an 03 636 as my first bike.  i love it so far!  this bike is very fast, stops very fast, and attracts lots of attention.  remember these are not ALWAYS a good thing.  sport bikes are a handful if you hit sandy areas of pavement, or wet roads and arent ready for it.  just take it easy at first, learn at your own pace.  dont try and impress people.  you are on a bike, you already look cool... ha ha.  the riding position for the 03 zx6r is a little more aggressive than some other 600's (like say an f4i), but also has a more comfortable seat.  i commute on mine 30 min to and from work on nice days and it works out just fine.  reliability on these bikes is great, with the exception of a noisy cam chain tensioner, more of a nuisance than anything.  do a brief search on google or something, but its nothing that would sway my decision on the bike.  other than that they have a pretty good record.  good luck on your decision!
