I have an 06 gsxr750 and i always use the clutch to upshift. I was reading an article that said while upshifting you rarely need to use the clutch! does that apply to everyday riding or racing? I would think the dogs on the slider gears would be more succeptable to damage this was. If anyone's got a good answer, I got open ears.

I routinely do not use the clutch....weather it be on the street or the track.
The key is to not "jam" the bike into gear. A little pressure on the shifter and a slight roll off the throttle and my bike will upshift very smoothly....On the street I will also down shift without the clutch. On the track, I am usually dropping more than 1 gear at a time so I will use the clutch.....

it will drop gears if your rpm's are low enough, i was curious about downshifting too but after i tried it, it was a little easier to understand, i usually upshift without the clutch when i ride

In the book "Total Control" the author states that if done properly, clutchless upshifts are easier on the bike with less wear and tear on the tranny. I hope he's right, because I hardly ever use the clutch when I'm under hard acceleration.
