Hey all, so after 6 years of non-bike *** I'm back to riding. I've ridden many bikes, incl. VFR's R6's Gsxr750s' but always owned and felt best on CBR's. I put over 60K on my first 87 hurricane, 40K on an *** smoked liter bikes around laguna seca on my old F3, I lastly rode a highly modified CBR900. The question is, should I get a 06' 600rr, 07' 600rr, or a used 04/05 1000rr. I'm 6/1 & 170 lbs. It seems like the 600rr's have nearly the same weight and power as my 900 did. I'll be backroads up the coast and taking a few track days, any suggestions appreciated

I've read that CBR600RR is the best 600 but if you want to go to liter bike I heard 07'GSXR100 is the best. I own an 03 Busa and I love it...

I have an 06 600RR and its awesome but the 07 is suppose to be far better all around.  I have not been on an 07 but have a couple friends with them and they love it.  I would say go with the 600, easier to throw around and on the streets you really dont need all the extra power plus insurance is cheaper.  my vote is for an 07 600RR

I've decided on sticking with the 600. I think it's way more fun to flick around a light weight bike through the canyons winding out in 3rd and 4th than the 'point-shoot-brake' riding on the liter bikes. I guess if I lived in Montana, or Nevada a 1000cc would be more practical. But in the Northern bay area it's a lot more about 2nd through 4th gear backroad adrenaline. I know the big revision is with the 07'RR but tell me honestly, have you ever taken your 06'RR out and thought to yourself "hmmm, nice, but not quiet enough bike.." I don't know, maybe you have. I can find used 06's for about $6,200 or shell out $7,800+ for a used 07. And when the 08's roll out in a few months the 06's will cost even less. Descisions descisions!

Well, 1000's flick too but the additional HP raises the pucker factor. I ride a 10R on the street but a little old VF 500 Honda on the track. It's an ex WERA bike that has 120 and 160 tires and rubber, like an SV650. It's an absolute ball on the track that allows me to be in charge.

It would seem that the 1000's would ride well, considering the wheelbase is about the same, as is the weight similar to the 600's of just a few years ago. Usable power though? I had to lay on top of my (modified @ 117bhp & 370lbs)900rr gastank from 2nd to 5th just to keep in close to the ground. Sometimes it's hard to take advantage of the power when you don't ever get out of 4th gear (150+mph) as I ride in Nor Cal. I felt much faster on the 900rr, but honestly turned quicker lap times at Laguna seca on the ol' 600F3, leavin' many a new liter bike behind (yes Gsxr1000's and R1's), especialy after the corkscrew & turn 9. There is something to be said however for 60 to 80 mph roll on speed though, which the 600 just aint got like the bike boys. The Big Rush Factor vs Quick Sneaky & Nimble. That I suppose is the question for us all.

There was a very inciteful article done several years ago titled "Does Size Matter?". Several riders with varying experience levels from relative newbies to club racers to an ex-pro, rode an R1, a GSX-R750 and an R6 at Willow Springs. This was before the Gixxer 1000 came out. Only the ex-pro went significantly faster than the others on the R1 because he wasn't scared of the head shake. Most were fastest on the R6 and a couple ran about the same lap times on all three. They basically had one speed they were comfortable with. Size does matter, but not like most people think. When I ran my 10R at Little Talladega, I was faster than on my VF 500, naturally, but not because of corner speeds. I would be hard on the brakes, ease through the corner and hammer the throttle on the straights. I didn't learn anything about maintainance throttle control, turn-in points, body positioning, etc. Now I have to do a lot more shifting, carry as much speed as possible through corners, hit my turn-in points, stay wide and turn quick, hang way off (not just part of a cheek), and stay in the 8 to just this side of 13 thousand RPM range. No more just leaving it in second and run. I've learned a lot more than I would have on the 10R. The R's a great bike but it encourages laziness on the rider's part.
