Hey all,

I'm sure this topic has been covered before. I grew up riding motorcycles, dirt bikes, etc.. I spent a year on a 2001 Honda CBR 600F4i in the DC metro area and got pretty comfortable with it on the city streets and highways...

I sold the 600  and have recently moved to Northern Illinois. I was looking to get another bike, most def. a 600 at minimum, but a liter bike is tempting to me.

For those of you that switched from 600 to 1000, what was the biggest thing to get used to other than the extra power?

FWIW, I consider myself to be an "experienced" 600 rider... just new to the forum.

Biggest thing to get used to....  Hmmm.  Besides the extra power....  Ummm, the extra power?  Seriously, the extra power is something else.  The numbers (1/4 mile, roll on, top speed) really don't IMO really give a true sence of how powerfull and quick they are....  It is definitely something to experience to believe.  This will be my 3rd Summer on my ZX-10R, and it still leaves me dumb founded when I really twist the throttle and wind out a few gears...  1st is good for about 105, 2nd is good for about 127, 3rd is good for about 147, 4th is good for about 165, 5th is good for about 181....  Granted the faster you go the farther off the speedometer is, but it is still smoking fast.

With the relative lack of curvy roads in Northern Illinois (I live near Elgin) you might want  to cosider a 'Busa or ZX-14...  Not quite as nimble as a liter bike, but far more comfortable.

I down sized after I totaled my R1... Now, I ride a small SV650. Let me tell you... the biggest difference is that with a smaller bike you do not have to restrain form using the throttle.   I make my little bike scream and cry... The R1 scared the crap out of me a few times and left me pale and speachless.

On a literbike you will spend more time rolling off the throttle and using your brakes than on the gas giving it  throttle... At least until you have some good throttle control, become fully aware of the bike's power potential and have a ton and a half of self control. ....With great power comes great reponsability....    Your bones will thank you if you use restrain.

The 1000's are just insane. The extra power is nice sometimes, but too much for the street in my opinion. I think it's actually more fun ringing out a 600, then tip toeing all the time with a 1000(unless you're really good with a 1000). The 600's are so *** fast these days, there's really no need for the 1000's on the street in my opinion.

If you want a more powerful bike thatn a 600 and want a liter bike I suggest a GSXR100. If you want a faster than that then a Busa or ZX14. I have an 03 Busa and did some mod on it and it is fast and insane...
