Who ever is out there saying the hayabusa is not a sport bike you would be correct... the hayabusa is a supersport bike it may not be able to beat a 600 or a 1000 in the turns but what it lacks in the twisties it clearly makes up for on the straighs. And name for me a 1000 with 200+ hp? so all of you getting your ass handed to you by a busa quit your bitchn' . They are faster than you and the sooner you realize that the better!

Busas haven't had any changes since 1999. If the ZX-14 didn't beat it, that would be pathetic!

Yes 1000s put out the HP of the 8 year old Busa, but how much torque?? The Busa and ZX14 rule when it comes to torque.

Top end, again the Busa and ZX14 rule. The ZX14 has a stronger engine but the Busa has less frontal area(more aerodynamic).

So when you want to compare 1000s to an 8year old model, remember to look at that torque measurement.

The fact that everything is still compared to a Busa just shows how great of a motorcycle it is.

Torque? And yet Suzuki's own 1000 (any year) will out pull it in a roll on from 60-80, 80-100. http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_performance_numbers/index8.html

The 'Busas that I've "played" with have nothing on me until we get close to top speed. Then the aerodynamics come into play. Otherwise I have them covered until 175 or so.... No lies. And I am running stock gearing with a slip on, pc, and TRE. Similar power, 100 lbs lighter (the bike, not me), and quicker reving engine....

And 99blckbusa. Show me a 200+ hp 'Busa. Suzuki doesn't make one.

Now a moded bike... 200+ hp easy enough... Pipe, pc, cams, pistons, NOS, turbo, valve porting, etc.... Like anything, it all depends on how much $$ you want to spend. And a bigger engine will almost always have more potential for power.

Maybe Sport Rider can do a comparison of some kind pitting a ZX-10R, GSXR1000, Hayabusa, and ZX-14. Strip, track, street.... Maybe do some higher speed roll ons... 60-180 or something... 100-180....

There is a big difference between the Super-Sport like the GSXR1000 / R1 / ZX10 CBR1000RRR and the Sport-Touring Hayabusa / ZX14.

It is expected that the bigger engine bikes would be faster...

The Hayabusa should be 30% faster than the GSXR1000 ...And the ZX14 should be 40% faster than the ZX10.

But they are not!

Sure if you have a high skill rider on a Busa and a beginer in a GSXR1000 at the track... The Busa Rider will out preform the GSXR1000 Rider.

However, put two high skill riders on a Busa and another one on a GSXR1000 at the track... Well, the Busa does not stand a chance.

With enough modifications any bike can be faster than the others. And in a strait line the modified Hayabusa is king!

Luis.

xx% faster isn't quite right. xx% more powerfull I think is what you meant to say. 30-35% more engine doesn't make for 30-35% more mph. Double the speed, 4 times the power or something like that... Otherwise by your reconning, a 'Busa or 14 should be over twice as fast as any 600cc bike. 1299cc/1352cc vs 599cc... Most 600s go a little over 160 mph. It would take a big turbo and a lot of gearing to get either of the big dogs over 320 mph.

Otherwise, yes, it is expected that the bigger engine would be quicker/faster than a smaller engine. And at times they are. But not as often as people think. And when the super sports get updates every other year, they can quickly close the gap to the 'Busa and 14. And the numbers posted in Sport Riders performance section shows that the liters have the big bikes covered. At least in top gear roll ons...

There are a lot of crazy quick/fast motorcycles available now. And they are not just limited to the 'Busa and 14. I'd like to take on a 14 again. Several times actually at different speeds and in different gears.

And there is no question that the 'Busa and 14 are more comfortable than any of the liter bikes.

Chris,

There are some mods to the 14 as you may have suspected, but horsepower doesn't necessarily determine top end. It's more about torque, gearing, tire height and sustained engine RPM. A front sprocket was changed, along with a TRE box, a seven angle valve job and yes a full exhaust with a power commmander. A cool morning with low humidity also helped in addition to the rearview mirrors being removed. Using 5th gear for a good pull thru 185mph. Some lightweight synthetic oil and losen the tolerence on the crankshaft bearings for more RPM. Remember this drops oil pressure, so don't expect these mods to give you long engine life. An aftermarket filter will help increase the air pressure to the airbox, and some high octane fuel keeps the detonation down. Remember the old UFO shootout? I was lucky enough to take part in helping to build a bike for Dick Speed of Speedlimit Cycle in Markham, Illinois. That bike did well over 200 mph with less horsepower than either the current zx-14 or busa.
