I have a question for A.T. I was wondering what your thoughts about clutchless upshifting from 1 gear to 2. It seems that some riders say they don't do it from 1 to 2 only from 2 to 6 gear. I have been a subscriber to Sport Rider magazine for the past 3 years and every article I have read on the subject has not metioned it. Thank You ! Jamie Easthampton MA.

Some people worry that they will accidentally go into neutral if they goof the first to secound shift.

Same here, I usually don't use first on the track so it's not an issue. I have been trying the "whole" transmission upshift clutchlessly and hit nuetral a few times(embarrassing). That's my main reason for only using 2nd on up for the clutchless option.

To me, first gear is to steep to clutchless. 1st is under a bigger load and doesnt want to jump into gear. Just stick to clutchless after second..smaller loads will be easier to clutchless rather than open throttle ive found

Something you might want to try that I found was pretty neat fun. I own a K6 Gixxer Thou'. While I don't usually ride childishly, recently I was bored and wondered whether the soft rev limiter wound allow a quick clutchless up-shift when it hit it. The answer is a resounding yes. Once you get past the looping point, preload the shifter and get it wide open in first. When it hits the limiter, you will get a perfect, ultra-fast shift into second (at an indicated 105 yet!). It'll pop up a bit and continue it's rocketship forward motion. 2nd to 3rd is almost as exciting. Had to shut down after that, very few places to hit 150 around here. Great fun. Enjoy the ride. Cheers, jack
