I've road motorcross my whole life and owned a V-rod for three years now, and now that it's paid for I'm going to get a sport bike. I'm leaning towards the GXRs. Either the 750R or 1000. I figured this would be the place to get some advice. I'm also open to suggestions on other sport bikes. Can you guys help me make a choice?
Thankx

If this is your first sportbike, and even if it isn't, I'd vote for the 750.  It'll handle better, cost less, cost less to insure, and still be crazy fast.  The only advantage to the 1000 is the extra power, which you can only use in a straight line, and if you do use it on the street, you're gonna end up dead or in jail.  I ride a liter bike myself, and I'm actually considering the 750 for my next bike.

If you're on the taller side the Gixxers might be a little more cramped then some of the other bikes out there.

I'm 6'1". What other bike would you recommend?

I just sat on a R1 yesterday.  Wasn't bad.  I’m the same height as you.  If you’re looking for a liter bike you really need to sit on all of them and see which one you’re comfortable on.  As far as performance goes the difference on the street is negligible.  Also, you’ll probably get more low end torque from a 1000 vs. 750.  Don’t quote me on that I didn’t look at any dyno charts.

Don't over look a Triumph Daytona 955! Triple. If your not set on a new bike check one out. I loved mine and only reason I sold it was to get a 600cc track bike. I don't think you'll be disapointed. Good power, good handeling and a nice seating position. I'm not as tall as you but you should go take one for a demo ride. My dealer allows serious buyers to demo all the models he has a demo for if you want.

Cleaner ---
Hard to knock any of the fronline sportbikes out there. I'd sort of steer you towards the 750---it's crazy fast but just a wee bit less likely to bite a first-time sportbike guy (although you are an experienced motorcyclist) than a liter bike. The 675 Triumph should also make your list, as should the 1098 Ducati (should you love big gobs of v-twin torque, a la your V-Rod), although the Duc is A)More expensive (shouldn't scare a guy who's bought an HD ) and B)they are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get hold of at this point.

The only way you can make a mistake is to not get what you want.It sounds pollyanna-ish to say, but they are ALL great bikes. Go hit a few dealerships, sit on everything that interests you, and TRY for demo rides (although fewer and fewer shops are doing them). Several years ago, I KNEW I wanted a ZX6-RR. Then I rode it and the ergos of the bike and I just did NOT get along. Still a great bike, just not the bike for me. So go in open-minded and find what works for YOU.

If you are an experience sport bike rider and can ride like Kent at sport rider, then I would suggest the Ducati Desmosedici RR which is about to hit the shelves this July. Ducati claims the bike will put out 200hp, what a speed tool if it proves to be true.  Can not wait til Sport rider does a ride review on it and put it through the paces.  In regards or the Suzuki's, I just don't know what the designers are thinking.  They must be using an ugly stick to draw their new bike designs.
