I'm curious, me and a couple of my buddies are planning a trip to Deal's Gap in August. Are there any riders on here that are close that would want to come riding out there with us? I thought it might be cool to have some locals riding with us.

I'm here in Georgia, just north of Atlanta. I plan on running Deal's Gap tommorrow, AKA The Dragon. Have you ever ridden it before? Timing is usually everything, heavy holiday weekends make for a lot of traffic and patrol cars. I would rather run it during the week when there is less congestion. Either way it is a good ride.

Yeah man if you're in that's cool. We going to make a week long trip of it. So riding through the week will be fine.

I had already planned on a trip there in July, which I might still go. But I'm down for a ride in August. I'm the VA beach area so not too far of a stretch to get there. Just keep me informed via private message or what not. Sounds like a blast.

Yeah I think it'd be cool to have as many riders from this forum as can make it come out and ride. It'd be cool to meet some riders from all over the country. Maybe even Sport Rider can get involed. We're going to be there the 14th through the 18th of August.

I'm in.
PM me and I'll give you my e-mail. It's about 3 hours from my house but I'll get a hotel room on Monday night and ride with you a couple of days, probably.

Keep this in mind when you get there, if you've never been before.
Stay in your lane. If a bike catches you from behind, he is faster than you. Ease over and wave him by. The posted speed limit is 35 mph, and TN cops do come through there on bikes, sometimes.
Everytime I go, I'm glad I did. Keep in mind that it is just a road, but it's got a pretty new surface on it and it's nice and smooth. No driveways or side roads to worry about for the duration of it.
Where are you guys thinking about getting a hotel? If you stay in Maryville TN that will be pretty close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, too. Might as well see those places and the Skyway too while you're out here.

One of the riders coming with me may have a conflict of schedule so we might have to alter the dates slightly. Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted on it. I guess worst case we'd just leave from deals gap a little earlier. Whatever, I'll work on it and let you know.

yea the skyway is pretty sweet, last time we were there though this guy totaled his bike and ended up having my uncle bail him out of jail. Hit the pavement doin atleast 80 after he panicked from seeing a cop parked on the road. Funny thing is, the cop said he was just there on his lunch break, enjoying the view, and would have never even seen him except that he heard the crash. Said he saw the dude, then the bike slide past him! Luckily the guy was ok, except for some surprisingly mild roadrash, thank god for leather and studded gloves! So there's a piece of his bike somewhere on the tree of shame!

What part of August are we talking here? It would be an easy ride for me to get there, if my work schedule will allow.
