A CBR600F4 is a great starter motorcycle for a beginner. If your family is concerned about your safety, stick to track riding first to gain experience. It will give you the skills you need to learn and if you do decide to take it on the dangerous roads, you will be prepared to do the defensive driving needed to stay away from all those driver's that kill motorcyclists each year. By learning on the track, you can satisfy your need for speed and avoid the most dangerous part of this sport, sharing the streets with automobiles and drivers that are distracted while driving. Even though I do not own a bike anymore, I used to commute to work 50 miles one way for eight years. I put over 28,000 miles on a 1989 Yamaha XT600 purchased used with 500 miles on the odometer, over 58,000 miles on a 1993 Kawasaki ZX6 purchased brand new, over 18 miles on a 2002 Yamaha R1 purchased brand new (yes, only 18 miles on the Yamaha R1 because it was stolen from my apt garage after only 8 days of ownership. newbies beware!!! read my thread I want to take a poll in general discussions for full details and good advise on how you can avoid this fate. ), and over 3000 miles on a Suzuki GSXR1000 also purchased brand new and sold it due to expensive insurance and having to play cat and mouse games to keep ownership of that bike. Need less to say, I ride an electric bicycle now if I need the sensation of 2 wheeling.

"Yeah mate?" Are you from the states or are you from down under?  If you are from the states and especially if you are from California, then read my thread "I want to take a poll" from general discussions. It will give you some good advise if you plan to purchase a brand new super sport bike.   My new two wheel hobby has turned to light electric transport.  I no longer crave sport riding like I used to but I still like to look at what's new in sport bikes.  The new GP Ducati replica is pretty sweet.

Have fun shopping for you new bike.

Good advice then.  Don't live in Cali, and don't buy a Super TorqueMonster 5000 as your first bike.  Unfortunately some of my coworkers belong to the "Hey, get a GSX or R1 as your bike!  You'll grow into it, and don't worry about that throttle!"  Get what feels comfortable to you, and what you can control.  Then get full insurance so you don't end up like out unfortunate friend exsportbiker.
