"Super Bikes!" on SpeedTV

So who caught the new program called "Super Bikes!" taking over for 2 Wheel Tuesday on SpeedTV yesterday? What did you all think?

I caught the 10pm showing and it was pretty cool. They clearly want to pack in a lot of different stuff in only a half hour, but I think it'll get better as the show progresses. The host was cool (he'll get better once he relaxes more), and the guests were ok. That Britton guy is a monster - awesome.

Nothing astounding in the show, but there's loads of potential, and I like the subject matter. I hope they run more in-depth pieces, but we'll see how things progress. I'm in.

Imo I can't believe they replaced Greg White's show with this squid fest. Granted Greg's show was a bit boring at times but what that show did do was show our sport positively. What they should have done was replace Greg with someone else who had some charisma and made the guests feel more at ease. The stories and reporting could have been better as well. It just wasn't polished enough which made the show kinda dorky. But to replace 2 Wheel Tuesday with this F&F version of motorcycling is a diservice to our sport.

I’ll have to agree with Randy; Greg’s Garage was a professional and mature representation of our sport as a whole. This new program is aimed at the lowest common denominator from the sport bike world. IMO

That show was so bad that it made me go out and find this forum.  My first post right now.  I was going to send an e-mail to Sport Rider editorial staff, and may still, and I sent a long rant to Speed TV that, in a nutshell, thanked them for taking the minority of sportbike riders (stunters and streetfighters) and giving the non motorcyling public another reason to think that every sportbike they see is being operated by some self absorbed squid who is just looking for a 200 foot gap to wheelie in or a way to do a burnout at a stoplight.  What a joke.  Speed has completely lost any idea of who the sportbike market is.  Who spins donuts with a KTM Duke, then lays the bike down, outlines it with chalk, and then lights the fuel overflow on fire??  I definitely want my insurance company to reflect on my rates after watching that stupidity.  They should follow up with a program dedicated entirely to law enforcement and paramedics scraping these idiots off the road everyweek.  Speed TV has gone Squid TV.  Oh yeah, I'm sure all the aftermarket advertisers appreciate the "if it's in a catalog, or on line, I don't want it" comments that were thrown out about 4 times.  Bad deal in my opinion.

I thought it was...

a joke. But then again, I am not a tough-kick-your-ass-

bad-ass-stunter-street-fighter-urban-biker.

Honestly, did you expect more?

the show suxorz & puts all of the sportbiking community on a bad light, that show must be put on a stop as soon as possible we're already getting bad publicity as it is.

Soooo...

Let's let Speed know.  I sent my e-mail off yesterday-their website has a viewer feedback link.  I'd also love it if the "editorial we" at Sport Rider would throw something along the lines of "what a bad reaction that show got" or "Squid TV" in print-but that is obviously well beyond my sphere of influence, and may be a media pissin' match that the magazine doesn't want to take on.

At the end of the day the sad fact for us sportbike guys is that reruns of a 1 year old Craftsman Truck race usually pull better ratings than any type of motorcyle road racing.  For Speed TV it's not "racin's rubbin'" anymore, it's "how much can we make today".

This is a real nice forum, I spent some time last night just cruising around.  Thanks for putting it up Sport Rider-and thanks for letting me contribute.

I was disgusted with this show I was watching it with my buddy and my girlfriend and we all looked at each other and said... "that's not how the real sportbike community is".
I was reminded of the South Park episode with Russel Crow and "fightin' round the world" Two Wheel Tuesday was better because it gave the motorcycle community a solid reputation by focusing on safety and controlled environments. And you got to keep on the races if you didn't get to see them on Sunday. This new show sucks.

Ok, Ok, so everyone hates it.  I agree that the show needs help.  It seemed to me that the premiere episode was in the vein of being hardcore without apologies.  Streetfighters and rat bikes and an unapologetic gusto.  Sure it was largely lost on me, too.  But the intention ain't bad.  And at least they're giving it a stab.

I truly think that we might have the opportunity to help shape the future of the show.  By being vocal to the producers and saying what we'd like to see as specifically as possible.

So, lay into it: What would your ideal sportbike show entail?  Don't say what it shouldn't be, say what it should be.  I have a feeling they're listening.

I don't have cable.
There's no TV in my house. By choice.

Because everything on TV is garbage these days.

O.K.  Here's some suggestions.  Track days are huge now.  Spend some time featuring a Freddie Spencer school or a track event-the promoters would love the publicity.  I don't think there's a motorcycle manufacturer on the planet that doesn't have a publicity dept. that wouldn't jump at the opportunity to feature the latest CBR,GSXR,ZX,R,Mille...whatever.  Give us a ride tour throughout the states, map it out, start out west or out east and work your way across the country.  Everyones heard of Deals Gap or PCH but feature some of the great spots and ideas.  Why there aren't T.V. cameras on Cannery Row on Friday and Saturday night of Laguna Seca has always amazed me.  Do a riding safety tip of the week.  Talk about the importance of riding gear, long pants, ankle supported boots or shoes, good gloves.  How to stay cool and hydrated on a hot summer ride.  What aftermarket supplier wouldn't instantly start pumping advertising cash in Speed TV's direction if they knew their gear was being ride tested-gloves, magnetic tank bags, chatter boxes, do a wind screen review for cryin out loud.  How 'bout a segment on you and two buddies checking the sag on your sportbike.  Do something real world that "Joe Sixpack" would be doing today after he watched the Moto GP race and wants to go play with his bike in the garage.

All of the above would work-and we'd love it-and guys would watch the crap outta it because unlike Gregs Garage, it doesn't try to weave in stuff on Trials riding and the occasional cruiser or have Michele Smith as a co-host.  Keep it real world full on Sportbike focused.  How 'bout some etiquite, like what to look for in the motorist in front of you who you're blinding with you high beams.  The top three signs that someone is going to make a left turn in front of you.  Why you shouldn't stay behind an S.U.V. or mini van in traffic, especially when it's in a left turn lane.  The possibilities are endless, why does it have to be wheelies and burnouts..

Whew, I'll stop there, rant off.

I would like to see a show that depicts sportbikes as such, a sport. I like the idea of track days and safety equipment featured tire tips, setup tips etc. I was on Cannery Row last year for the GP race just walking up and down the street I was impressed because everyone I talked to was really friendly and we were all there for the same reason. To see the races. Show that sort of thing. Show how the sportbike community is largely concerned about the reputation of thier sport and how the real riders ride responsibly and as safe as they can.

First I find out my bike isn't a real sportbike, now I find out that I'm not a real rider.
My whole life is a fake.

Well I guess the first step to fixing a problem is admitting that you have one.   Who told you that you didn't have a real bike?
