I'm think this was posted before but I can't remember. Which gives the best protection for street riding, a leather jacket or a textile jacket.

Leather certainly provides more protection; however, some riders due to the weather, as an alternative, opt for a textile.

I prefer to wear a leather jacket because it provides much more protection than a textile one. However, with temperatures soaring over 110F and my aging body liking these temperatures less each year I switched to a textile summer riding jacket a few years ago. The textile is a step up from mesh and doesn't flap in the wind like mesh jackets do. While the mesh jackets seem to breath slightly better than the textile I just don't fully trust their abrasion resistance when encountering 140F asphalt at 65MPH.

I have a white leather Icon jacket and I don't get hot in it.....because it's white. Most people think that a leather jacket has to be black. I don't know why. I guess because black matches everything.
But so does white.

My leather jackets are 1) white and 2) green/white. When it's 110F out it doesn't really matter what color the leather is, it's just plain hot Of course, my age seems to be having a large impact on my heat durability. I remember almost 20 years ago I rode around all summer in a black/grey leather jacket and didn't think twice about it.

me & my brother just bought a 2pc leather suit from Teknic at an insane price, we got the perforated ones so it lets air in, sure beats wearing my 1pc leathers everytime i ride my bike.

Last year a friend of mine high sided a 600RR he wasn't wearing a jacket at the time, but he'd tell you that any jacket is better than no jacket after that road rash. I have an Alpinestars textile and thankfully I haven't had to see how well it works, but I have another friend with a jacket just like mine that went down and his worked just fine. I will get a leather one eventually but for now I'm good with a textile.
