Too big for a sportbike?

Hi all,

I've been riding MX for several years and have an opportunity now to buy a sport bike.  My main concern is my height.  I've just started looking into getting a bike and haven’t had a chance to go sit on any in a dealership.  My question to you is, at 6’4” and 240lbs am I too big?

I assume from some of the posts I've seen that I could pull it off but that it might be "tight".  If that's true, can any of you recommend some bikes to sit on that would be more to my size?

The first dirt bike I had was a KX-250 and although Kawasaki was known for having "bigger" bikes I found that the distance between the foot pegs and the handlebars was pretty cramped and lead to me contorting myself.  Later I got a YZ all those troubles disappeared. There was much more room and I felt a lot more comfortable on the track.

So I'm wondering if the same thing applies with sport bikes (i.e. some are bigger than others and bigger guys fit better on them).

Any comments?

Thanks for your time.

You are 'not' too big to fit.

Buy the bike that interest you the most, even if the 'body

type match' isn't the best. After-market rear sets and Heli

bars will complete the fit.

I'm 6'4", 200lbs.
You will EASILY find a Hayabusa comfortable (not that I'm recommending it  ) and I would also suggest that you try out a Triumph Speed Triple (97-06). The earlier 97-98 SIIIs with the 885cc triple engine would make a good first sportbike for you, based on the fact that you have some dirtbike experience. (The speed triple FEELS a lot like a dirtbike)
Good luck

Wow!  Thank you very much for the posts and information (and the pics!).  I went and sat on some bikes this weekend.  The Suzuki’s felt very small and my wife said I looked huge on it But the Kawasaki’s felt good.  I'll look into the bikes that were recommended as well.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks again for all the help.
