Seeing in the rain

Anyone have any advice on how to see better in the rain? My motorcycle is my only mode of transportation. I got gear that does a good job of keeping me dry in the rain, but there are times when I can't see very well because of the water on my visor. It also seems like my visor wants to fog up which makes it worse. Anyone know if using something like Rain-X on my visor would help? I am also wondeering if keeping my vents open on my helmet is contributing to the fogging? My Scorpion Exo helmet says it is anti-fog, and I only notice it fogging sometimes when it is raining.

Actually, your breath is what is fogging your visor.  So stop breathing when you ride.    Just kidding...    Cracking the visor open a little if it isn't raining too hard might help.  Keeping the chin vent open should help.  My Shoei has a breath guard/deflector, I don't know if your helmet does or came with one...

What is happening, is that the wind hitting your visor at 45, 55, ?? is cooling the visor off.  And then the moisture from your breath hits it and fogs it up, condenses on it.  You need to keep your breath off the visor (guard or deflector), or get some cool air to hit the inside of the visor (chin vent) to keep your breath from condensing on it.

I don't know if Rain-X will help on the inside of the helmet.  It or any other wax, will help water run off the outside of the visor.  But that isn't really the problem.....

Actually I am having both problems. The water on my visor seems much worse when the visor decides to fog up as well though.

As far as the rain goes, I just want to make sure putting rain-x on the outside of my visor is not going to make it worse. I am not sure what kind of coatings if any are put on cycle visors, and would hate to put something on the visor only to find out first time it rains that I made myself totally blind or something.

As to the fogging, I usually ride with all of the vents in my helmet open. I have a crap load of vents though.  Here is a link to my helmet, the picture doesn't show them all, but there are 6 closable vents. I wonder if keeping all of the vents open is pushing my exhaled breath up along the inside of my visor? Do you think it would be better to close all of my vents except the chin vent?

What i've done in the past was, I went to a dive shop and got mask anti-fog solution that scuba divers use. It works very well.

Rain-X may degrade some plastic shields over time. I use Honda Polish Cleaner to clean my visors and it leaves behind a film that beads up water quite well. As you ride along, if you are at 40+mph speeds, just turn your head from side to side. The water beads will stream off the visor.

It doesn't last forever but the more you use it, the better it works.  Also works well as a general purpose, waterless cleaner for the motorcycle, too. Removes grease, insect remains, dirt, etc. quite efficiently.

As for fogging, you can try anti-fog sprays and coatings or something like the Fog City insert.

Sweet, I will have to give that stuff a try. Glad I didn't go get the rain-x.

Atroxus, I have a scorpion exo also But Ive never experienced it fogging up at all. I have riden in the rain many times.I love the helmet, logged probably 10,000miles with it. I still have the original shield on it. Only use soap and water to clean it. As far as rain goes I just use my thumb with glove to wipe the excess water off and let the wind do the rest.

Do you close or open your vents ibn the rain?
