A 600 is too much for a beginner to really use safely. A 500 is an excellent choice, and it will make you better rider in the long run. I'm guessing that the guys that told you that you need a 600, and that a 500 will bore you, probably have not been riding more than a couple of years themselves. The long time riders (15, 20, 30...50 years) Will all tell you that a 500 or even smaller, is where to begin. Even a 500 in the 1/4 mile is faster than most cars.

from where i am even getting a 400cc sportbike is a luxury, some of us even started on 50cc scooters & then graduated to 125cc & then get a 400cc repliracer. if you can be patient start out with a 500cc (depends on how big & experienced you are) & after a year or 2 of constant riding get yourself a 600cc & log in a few hundred miles to get yourself accustomed to the bike b'coz it will be way different than the 500cc you started with.

I have to agree with these guys. I have only been riding for about four years now and it always irritates me when i overhear people putting peer pressure(for lack of a better term)on someone to get a 600 or even a 1000 in some cases, when they have never even been on the back seat of a bike let alone piloting one. when i got my first bike i had some dirt experience and wanted to go to the street, and i wanted a sport bike but i did'nt know if i could contain myself with that kind of power at my fingertips. don't laugh but i ended up getting a cruiser for my first bike. i think it was a good decision though because i got a 750 maurauder which is a descent sized engine for the riding exp. that i had but not something that i felt was to much to handle. i stepped up to a 600 gixxer after about a year and a half of everyday riding.

there's nothing wrong with a cruiser.. i have rod one.. i would'nt say it was a 750.. was a 250 rebel..there nice bikes.. but as far as my frist bike gose i think i'm going to get a ninja 500, htere are some people trying to push me into getting a 600cc bike.(i would look better on one)...i don't agree with there comment, btw how are the gsx-r's, 600's?

i loved my gixxer. unfortunately it got stolen last year and i haven't seen it since. i now own an 05 R6 but i don't know if i like it as much as my gixxer. i'll say i like them different than eachother, not better or worse. oh yea, there is nothing wrong with cruisers. i plan on having both cruiser and sportbike in the future, you know, when i can afford it ,

I bought a gsx-r 600 for my first bike despite all the anti-600 posts. I love that bike and just have to learn how to respect it and take things slow and speed and control will become natural to you overtime. I love that bike, everything about it, I highly recommend buying one. I took the MSF course and wear gear so just be smart and ride according to your ability and not over it.

agreed, i would say that if you know your skill level and have the self controll to keep yourself in check and not ride past your own abilities that it's not impossible to start on a 600. I just rarely see those people out there .

Those bikes are a good choice if you are a relatively bigger guy.
