Panic Stop Explanation.....?

Alright I have been riding an 02'R6 for about a year now and just the other day I to make a hard stop to avoid hitting a truck that pulled out right in front of me. I got er stopped but I need to ask ............How do I do a panic stop the right way? Both when straight and in a lean(because if you need to stop quick in a lean there isn't always time to straighten up.) Also you guys mention a rookie mistake of chopping the throttle. what exactly is that and how do I avoid it? Cody

Most all the bases are covered regarding your questions on maximum (aka panic stop) braking and cornering.
Chopping the throttle in a turn is a survival instinct a rider may revert to when they overcook a corner. Quite simply, the rider suddenly rolls off the throttle. Counterintuitively, this actually makes it more likely the rider may run wide or crash because instead of preserving traction, chopping the throttle actually wastes traction- instead of distributing the cornering load between front and rear tire, all of a sudden, the bulk of the load is transferred abruptly to the front. Using proper cornering procedure, chiefly, setting your corner speed appropriately before you turn in is helpful for new riders to avoid this.

You have to stand the bike up to get maximum braking. If you jump on the breaks while leaned over you're going to low side the bike and then slide into whatever it was you were trying to avoid. In the msf course we did a drill where we practiced simultaneously standing the bike up and braking hard at the same time.
