Hello all, I am new to this but I am taking motorcycle safety classes in march and the class requires me to have all the safety gear when I attend the classes. I would like to know where I could start with safety gear, I mean, I am still a student so what are the affordable gears can I manage to get being a student.
Thanks.

Generally, here are the requirements for a typical MSF BRC (Basic RiderCourse):
- 3/4 or full-face helmet (typically provided by the program) - eye protection in the form of sunglasses or prescription eyewear (note, this is eye protection for a beginner rider class in a parking lot, NOT eye protection for actual riding on streets and highways) -long sleeve shirt of decent weight or jacket if you wear a t-shirt -jeans or pants of good weight/thickness -footwear of sturdy construction that is at least ankle height (covers the ankle bone)
Requirements can vary from state to state, so contact your state MSF adminstrator for specific details in your area.
Cheers.

* Gloves too.
Atleast the MSF course I took in '01 in KS made people wear 'em. I don't know why, they had these dinky little thin pure cotton gloves they made the people who didn't bring their own gloves wear. It's a GREAT idea to start off riding with gloves. They may feel a bit bulky at first, but you'll get use to them REAL quick and after that you'll feel naked riding without gloves on. Same thing with boots and most other gear I've found.

Definitely... I can't believe I forgot the gloves.
Full fingered gloves of sturdy material. No open knuckles or backs (weightlifting gloves not ok). The Mechanix® gloves you see are very nice for the purpose of the classes. Something m/c specific best for when you are out on the streets and highways.
Can we delete this thread now... my chief instructor will have my arse if he sees this post.

Yeah, they should have what you need. But, if you know what you want and what size you need you can usually save some cash going through a catalog or internet company. denniskirk.com and kneedraggers.com are usually very competitive.
