what's up? i am new online but i've been a loyal fan and customer of SR for a few years now. i was browsing the topics and noticed some one was having a problem with a 10K rpm redline. As do I. i have a 2005 R6 with barely over 3K miles on it. it has been at yamaha for a month now and they still have not even identified the problem yet. they have replaced the coils, the air filter, the ecu and a dozen of other parts. i am one of those guys that rides unles it is pouring rain and i think i'm going through riding withdrawls. if someone can help with this problem i would be extremely appriciative. "ride on"

I'm not sure what you mean. What do you mean when you say that your bike has a 10K redline? The redline on an R6 is somewhere around 16K I think.

Do you mean you lose power at 10k, or the revlimiter is kicking in at 10k? You need to clarify, because all a redline is, is exactly what it says. It's a where the red line on the tachometer is marked.

meaning that instead of the rpms going up to 16,500 like it should, it hits 10,000 and acts as if there is a rev limiter at 10,000. it only does this under load. if it is in neutral the engine will rev up to 16,500 or further but as soon as it is in gear it won't budge past 10k. and it isn't around 10k either, like 9,500 or 10,500 it is abrupt, right at 10k.

Wow, that's friggin weird. I assume it has to be something either computer controlled, or something with air or fuel. But it looks like they've done all that. Maybe a new throttle body is next.

Ya got me on that one. Keep us informed when the dealer works it out.

O.K. so, it has now been six weeks without my bike . So far all of the techs at the dealership are stumped. a week ago yamaha sent a tech out here who is appearently one of thier "brains" and he had been working on it for a week. I talked to him today and he said that he has yet to identify the problem and does not feel comfortable having anyone on the bike. so new bike for me , and another break in period for me . although the problem has yet to be figured out i expressed to him my need for closure on this mystery and to inform me when the phantom problem is fixed or at least identified. so i will update the rest of you when i get the info so you can all file it away in your "maybe it's this problem" file.

Thanks for the update. I hate breaking in new bikes, but better that than trusting the old one.
Keep us informed.
