Rode the fisrt one we got in last Friday.  It was black.  Now I'm going to have to buy the blue one when it comes in.

Not going to be anywhere near what that 675 will have, or the 636...but Yamaha doesn't care, if you want 600 with more low end buy one of their other 3 600s (R6S, YZF600R, FZ6).

From the articles I've read, I get the impression that the new R6 is Yamaha's ZX-6RR. A great platform for a factory race bike, but the rest of us will be happier with the  other 600.

The newer sport bikes try for more top end then low end(yes, even the new 636).  That's why the factories are starting to put exup valves in the exhaust.

My prediction for peak torque number rankings:

1. Triumph Daytona 675
2. Kawasaki ZX6R 636
3. Suzuki GSXR600
4. Honda CBR600RR
5. Yamaha R6

Can't wait for the comparison tests.

That's not entirely true. The valves are a way of retaining low end power while trying to meet even more stringent emmissions requirements also. Tuning for high end is a factor, but not the sole reason for the exhaust vavlves. The new 636 and ZX-10 both meet Euro 3, which is worse than Cali.

My spouse is getting a yellow one (her 4th R6).  I hope yellow is the faster color.

The new R6 does look nice.  I hope it winds up quickly because the top end advantage that it has isn't worth getting killed down low...  Is that the new GSXR600 in the same dyno graph?  3 less hp, but it looks to trounce the R6 just about everywhere else....

Looking forward to a comparison with the new 675 also.

You don't need exup valves to meet emissons regs.

You do if you want to retain any semblance of low end. Due to emissions standards current bikes are extremely lean between approx. 2K and 6K RPM.

The valve has nothing to do with emissions.  The new R6's valve is after the catalytic converter, unlike the 636.  Valves affect exhaust tune.  The factories have squeezed all the horsepower out of the stock 600 engines with out adding high performance parts.  That means that the factories have to raise the rpm redline to gain a noticable difference in top end horse power.  That hurts mid and low end horse power.  Using a exhaust butterfly valve in the tail pipe affects the exuast tune and creats more low and mid range power and torque.  The 2004 636, and the 03-05 R6 meet current emission standards and have more low and mid range than the brand new sport bikes.  And they do all this without a valve in the exhaust pipe.  The 06's will beat those bikes in topend speed, but I wouldn't drag race against a 04 636 with an 05 or 06 636.
