I had to purchase a new rear tire for my ZX6R.  The new tire has a different tread pattern than the front, but they are both Battlax tires.  Would it be a problem or will this be ok?

Which battleaxe is up front and which is in the rear. It will have a model number, like BT019.

That will be OK, but you should know that the BT020 is not a sportbike tire. It is a sport/touring tire. It will be fine for most aggressive riding and will give you longer tire life, but it can't be pushed to the exteme of the stock BT019 up front and the stock BT012 in back on the '03 and '04. Also the tire profile will be different, so it may not turn in as quickly. I think the '05 had BT014's front and back.

My fault man, the front is BTO14 and the Rear is BTO20.  Is this a bad combo?  I asked the dealer at the store and he said it would be fine.

I've heard of people doing it before, but it's definatley a compromise. It sounds like the guy just sold you what he had in stock. It's no big deal though. You'll get better tire life out of it and it will still grip very well. But if you're used to spinning it up out of the corners or doing track days, you might want to get a true sport tire in the back. The good thing is that you're front is still a sport tire. I wouldn't worry about it, you're stuck with it now anyway. It's not a bad tire, you just can't push it super hard in the corners. I doubt to many people push that hard on the street anyway. Just be a little more cautious about hitting the gas out of corners, especially if the tire and/or the road is cold.

Are you refering to the BT020's or Bridgestones in general?

I just purchased the Pilot Powers this weekend and put 300+ miles on them.  They were expensive but did'nt really impress me when I took it hard in the corners.  The Powers seemed to give a little and did'nt feel planted as compared to my BTO14's did.  I'm just gonna go back to the Bridgestones once these wear out.

I know in this website's tire review they rated the Bridgestone’s very highly.  I plan on purchasing a set for this upcoming season.  Well priced and good performance, doesn’t sound so bad to me.

try experimenting tire pressures on both front & rear, maybe you're running then too hard or too soft. if it weren't for the price of the Michelins i'd still stick with them but maybe a set of Bridgestone's BT012SS or BT014 are in the near future.

hey Trev how much lean angle did you get with the BT014's? do they match or come close to the Power?

What is the recommended Tire Pressure for the Pilot Powers anyway?  I have a 05 ZX-6R.
Here are the Tire Sizes
120/70ZR17 Front
180/55ZR17 Rear

I ran the stock Bridgestones on my ’04 636 at Homestead raceway. The tires gripped very well all the way to the very balled up edges   and they also lasted a long time. I had about 5000 street miles, one track day and about 20 passes at the drag strip when I got a nail in the tire. The back had a flat spot, but still had life left. Flat spots are pretty normal in S. Florida due to the straight roads and high temps. These tires are also fairly inexpensive. I’d buy them again.

Right now I’m running a set of Pirelli Diablo Corsa’s, it’s considered a “track day” tire. 80% street, 20% track is what the description says. I was just going to use them fro track days, but I go the nail in the Bridgstone so I’ve been using them on the street too. These tires friggen rock, but they’re pricey.

I’ve never really gotten used to the feel of Michelins…they’re just…different.

I think slipstone's latest and greatest tire is decent.  But down here, Michelin and Dunlop are preferd.  In 2004 a lot of 636's went down because of the stock slipstones.  In the summers here they are ok, but I wouldn't ride with them on my bike in the winters.  I ran the Powers on my 04 R6.  And when I get the new R6 i'm going to switch to Powers again when I run the Dunlops down.

Sorry about the double post.  For tire pressure, just go by the bikes specs, not the tire.
