hey i'm looking to get a two piece set of leathers and i was just wondering what some of the better brands were and what to stay away from. i'm a colledge student so i don't have enough to buy several different suits so i need to get it right the first time. i was looking at alpine stars, joe rocket, teknic, motogp, and sidi. they all look good but i can't find any feedback on them and there aren't any dealers in my area. i would appreciate any input about what yall wear and whats best.

I have experience with all of those brands except MotoGP. They are all good quality, with Alpinestars and Sidi being a step above Joe Rocket and Teknic. Teknic would be the most affordable I believe. I have a Teknic Lighting one-piece. No complaints.

I've used my Teknic leather jacket for several years now. Many miles, no complaints. Other than it seems to be getting smaller. Wait a minute, maybe that's me getting bigger... Also have Joe Rocket. Okay, but I'd like to see seam and stitch quality improve.

I've know someone who rented a MotoGP one piece and I thought the quality was awesome for the price. They also make a full kangaroo suit for a little extra. I've had most name brands and most will be fine. What I've learned is that it's the seams that fail and not the leather so much. So I'd look at the seams and make sure you are getting double stitched at least. Also, some companies advertise kevlar stitching, there's some conrversy here since it seems the tread does not wear away but sometimes actually cuts through the leather in a crash opening the seam. The older Joe Rocket elbo and shoulder pads pretty much suck, maybe they've up graded them I don't know. Make sure you get CE armor like the Knox stuff or stuff with hard shells as well.

If you are interested in going to the track you want to make sure any two-piece leathers you get have 360 zippers. None of the tracks around where I live will let you ride with just the 8" zippers. I just got a Joe Rocket two-piece as an early Christmas (or should I say Holiday present...please) present. It fits great and seems to be of decent quality. probably not as good as Sidi or Alpine Star but it only cost like $700.

I recently bought an ICON BURNER jacket and the quality and fit are both excellent! This is coming from a guy that has owned nothing but Alpinestars for years. The ICON gear does seem to size diffrent than some others though, most other companies I wear a XL but with ICON I had to buy a 2XL, and it fits perfect.

Icon does make good gear. All my gear is icone from my boots to gloves to jacket to helmet but if you're looking for a suit you arent gonna find one that icon makes i think. They are all about street riding not track riding. so their stuff is designed to be functional for street use as well as protect you in the even of a crash. They dont even make leather pants only their timax material and reinforced jeans.
