The first thin people are going to ask you here is how much experience you have.  Starting on a 750 or new 600 is a bit much.  I know that it is hard to resist the urge of the cool, fast, sportbikes.  Try a learner for a year or so first like a suzuki GS500F or a Kawi 500.  A lot of people also say that a used SV 650 is a good starter.  I have a buddy that learned on a SV 650 and he didn't want to get rid of it he liked it so much.  They handle really nice.  Just trying to help you out before someone starts yelling at you.

Well after the go around we all had in the last few weeks trying to talk some young kid out of a CBR 1000RR, I'd say this is refreshing!!! That being said....the new 600's & 750's are a bit much for a first bike in my opinion, if you have your heart set on one or the other though, I'd say go with the 600. They are fast as hell(not that you need it) handle very well and your insurance would most likely be a bit cheaper on the 600. Which ever you deceide, be safe and enjoy the ride!

I know the trend is to get a SuperSport, but lets fact it, there is no way anyone should be riding a supersport bike to it's full potential on a public road.  Why not buck the trend and get a SV650, Monster, or some other mid-sized twin.

Open your mind to the possibility that Super Sport bikes are not that great for the road.

I ride a 2001 katana 600 and a 2005 gsxr750 and I will say stay away from the 750 the katana is fast as hell for a beginner but nothing like the 750 and it can be "souped up" to a point to allow room to step as you get ready without making a big jump
