Whats up fellas, just wondering what all you guys do or if you have any good tips for what to do with your bike when you put it away for the winter. I personally am going to ride in the cold but once it gets too bad here in NY I will put her to sleep. Any tips?ideas?
Thanks

I hear petting the bike and muttering, "Pretty bike....you're such a pretty bike." also helps in the winterizing process

Thanks!  My wife complaned that I was planing to put my new bike in the garage over winter (it's alreay kinda tight).  I showed her that, then two days later I pulled in and she had cleanwd almost all of her (need to keep it for the future) junk. Thus leaving me with plenty of not only space for my bike  but for me to work on it as well.
So thanks again

Thanks for the info Spyke, do you think I could just avoid alot of all that stuff if I just took my bike out like once a week for a ride even if it is freezing or is the winter just going to take its toll on the bike regardless?? I have it in a garage in a cover at all times and do oil changes alot but what if I just rode it every now and then???
Thanks again!!!

Hey whats up Dunlop!  I have a  gixxer 750 and it seems that every year when iam about to semi put my bike away in the shed it gives me problems to start up. I had it out last sat. and then i went to start it up the other day and it would not start up. I go through this every year. I charged up the battery and even put in another one and nothing.  Usually when i change the spark plugs it starts up.  But this only happens in the winter when it starts to get real cold.  I ride all year long unless snow comes down so what i usually do is top it off with fuel with some stabilizer and i put it in the shed with a cover and i start it up once in a while if it's snowing. Can you give me a hint on what to do.

grickard, I should finish that page and share how to get a second bike into the house. Last year, spring came and I was too busy riding.

GRGSXR750, You didn't tell me if the bike was defueled or how long it takes to start or the temperature.

As a rule: Asian bikes don't start easy in the cold although their FE bikes are getting better. But even then, some OEMs electronics are sluggish in the cold and that can cause a hard start.

My gut feeling is that schmeggy (a technical word) has gummed up one or more jets in your bike's carbs and needs to be cleaned out to sort.

Lets make this simpple. Even if you dont ride your bike for 6 months the easy way to winterize it is......Make sure the gas tank is allways full....Keep a batery tender on it at all times....Ounce a week start it and let it run for 15-20 min. It will keep condonsation from forming/your bike well-oiled/and your battery charged all wile your not riding your machine..

Ditto what Mototech said, but put some fuel stabilizer in the gas tank too. I have a 2003 R6 and live in MN and I've been doing nothing more than what he said since I bought it (new) and haven't had any problems.

That was some of the most entertaining reading i have ever done. I live in San Diego and i'm thinking about putting my "art" in the house now.
