Geof, I actually have considered the new model Speed Triples. I LOVE my 98, even if it seems a bit weak, and I know I would love the new ones. Not that I dislike naked bikes, I just kind of want something with a fairing (rain, wind, you know) I do like having something a little different. It's just so hard to get parts support, etc. for Triumphs. And there's really no aftermarket for them like there is for the 4 Japanese brands. The plus side is that I know that the way a Triple rides (more upright, bars instead of clip-ons) might suit me better since I ride an hour one-way to work everyday. And I can use my 98 as a trade-in. But would I ever be able to get my girl on the back of that tiny seat? SHE'S 6'2" !!

Toad, I live a little northeast of Burnsville. I rode Ceasar's Head about a month ago for the first time. It takes about an hour for me to get to Asheville coming from Burnsville on 19 then south on 26. Not to far at all, when you ride a lot.

Casey,
Go ride the 06 S3 before you decide... If you are into a getting away from the naked thing, fine. If you like your S3, go ride the new one. It will blow your socks off... 1050cc all kinds of crazy fast, wheelies in four gears... Give it a shot...
Wheelies in four gears?? Are you kidding me?? I guess if the 06 comes in bright orange, green, neon yellow or something like that, I might be rethinking the whole next bike thing, YET AGAIN. Thanks, I guess....

Casey, Ceasars head is kind of dangerous. Way too much traffic. As you may have noticed. Look me up next time you come this way. I will show you a couple of good rides. Just down the road. Just return the favor and show me a couple of good rides around the Mt Mitchell area.

It's a wheelie monster if you get the "off road" cans and engine management map. Power wheelies all day long out of 1-2-3. You gotta work 4 a bit but if you hammer it at about 7000 it'll go... Mine is black, BAD A$$ looking ride. They do a cool blue and a sort of orange gold that is really cool. I rode one of the gold ones, it's all the biz and you have to see it in person to appreciate the color... But Black is the BOMB!!

DON'T TEASE ME.....
I've seen all three colors in person. I like BRIGHT colors. My '98 is Roulette Green. (OW! MY EYES!)

Most of the things you mention is why I chose the S3. I wanted more of the "upright" postion for commuting, but a bit of raw agressiveness as well. The S3 fit right in there. Besides it's got to be one of the coolest looking rigs EVER. I looked at and rode the Duc monster, and the Buell xb12. Not even close. Especially for the price. The BEST thing about this bike is there are only 4 of them in the entire state in black. That is how rare the black ones are. The 05-06 are getting nothing but raves in the mags for the category.
With regard to dealer issues, I'm in Colorado and the largest Triumph dealer in the states is in Denver. There are several parts houses doing S3 stuff, but overall you are right about bolt on's etc being limited.
IF your girl is 6'2' she will eat her knees!! but the seat is bigger than it looks. I've heard of a couple of companies doing rear peg lowering kits, but haven't seen them. My daughter fits just dandy!!! She's 11!!

The 636 is going to be slightly heavier than a 600. You may not notice it, but I know I would. I notice the weight of a fly when it gets stuck to my windscreen! LOL
I don't have '05 numbers handy but in '04 the 636 was the lightest 600. 418 wet. That's 1 pound lighter than the R6, 11 pounds lighter than the GSX-R and 27 pounds lighter than the Honda. In '05 the 636 gained 3 or 4 pounds due to the exhaust and the Honda lost like 15 pounds, the other two didn't change. That places the Kawi in a solid second lightest. Dry weights don't mean [censored].

Oh, almost forgot. The 636 also has the most torque and highest peak power of the 600's and price is in the middle of the 4.

the 636 is deff. a great choice. doesnt matter what year there all sweet. i still havent ridden an 05 but the 03/04s are sweet. and i know the 05s are leaps and bounds better than the 03/04's and i heard for 06 theyre getting rid of the funky tach finaly. cause thats basicly the only thing anyones ever had complaints on for the 636s. they all have the same hard to read lcd sweep tach
