while doing a routine oil change on a gsxr 600, a friend and i stumbled into a really big problem that really we caused ourselves. we didnt notice that when putting back the oil plug, it wasnt going in straight and of course what followed was a complete disaster. the oil pan's inner thread was gone and the bolt just kept turning. we didnt think that this was a safe way to drive so we went to the local shop and purchased a oil pan bolt which was a little bigger in diameter and used that to re thread the oil pan. my question is what will happen next oil change will the oil pan have to be replaced or will this quick fix hold. any comments are appreciated.    (dont you hate it when a little project turns into a two or three day job.)

I hate it when that happens!
Never used one of those thread fixer plugs on a bike, but the one I did put in my truck oilpan has worked just fine for several years. Just a note, be careful letting the kids at the local quick change oil place do your service, you may come home and find a puddle under your truck because the oil plug is striped.

Sorry to hear about the FUBAR'ed threads.

Rule #1- Initially, you ought to thread the fastener in by hand, then use a torque wrench to torque it to the spec'ed value.
Rule #2- Pay attention to what you are doing when you are doing stuff like this.

You'll need to drill and tap the fastener and use an insert like a HeliCoil.

I agree with Tevo. It's best to take the pan off and have a threaded insert put in. Here's an article that talks a little bit about that kind of thing:

If the drain plug leaks or comes out...
