Whats up folks! I have a 05 R6 and I am looking to put a slip on exhaust on it.  Any advice from anyone on a good selection?  My buddy has an 04 R6 and a Yoshimura slip on oval and he hates it because it makes it sound like a pissed off bee.  I was thinking AKRAPOVIC. Any thoughts?  Appreciate the help!  Ride hard, Ride Safe.

I think as long as you stay away from D&D and V&H you'll be fine.

Try and get ahold of the October 04' issue of SR.  They tried on 30 different slip ons for the R6.  It gives all sorts of stats from weight, dyno run, to Db levels.  Check it out.  If now Akrapovic is a good brand.  Also the one they use on the AMA Yamaha Factory Road Racing team.  They probably use it for a reason.

Please keep in mind that while I think D&D might have had the 2nd or 3rd highest power gains in that particular test...you won't see ANY Factory Road Racing teams using D&D, and they probably DON'T use them for a reason lol.  I'd almost rather have Brandi Chastain kick me in the nuts than have to listen to a D&D exhaust.

I have an 05 R6 in black, I got a Hindle slip-on, its the Picotte oval supersport in annodized red.  It looks sharp and sounds great.  Give a deeper sound at idle and sounds great when you are on the throtle.  Power wise I do not know if it really makes a difference but it looks and sounds great in my opinion and is lighter than stock.  Website is Hindle.com

D&D is THE loudest pipe out there (undisputed as far as I'm concerned).  Almost all aftermarket exhausts are loud, but D&D is just on another level...I think a straight pipe would be quieter, I'm only half kidding there.  The sound is deafening if you try and ride near someone who has a D&D exhaust on an I4 sportbike.  D&D doesn't even make full systems anymore (as far as I know) for sportbikes, they just don't care about performance...the only numbers they care about is price (they're usually the cheapest exhaust out there) and the DB level (the louder the better for them, but the tone sounds like absolute garbage imho).  And again you won't see many mature/hardcore sportbikers running D&D exhaust, it is however the official pipe for most squids.  Try and find a road racing team that runs D&D, or any track day junky for that matter.

Fart pipes are to imports as D&D exhausts are to sportbikes.  I'm not "dissing" imports or imports with exhausts, but you know the "fart pipes" I'm talking about though...the ones that are usually pretty cheap, extremely loud, and just sound like absolute garbage.

V&H (Vance and Hines) shouldn't be lumped in together with D&D, they're not THAT bad.  Like D&D though they are a cheaper exhaust and you can usually see it in their products.  They don't sound bad imo but they almost always look like someone took an old used aftermarket exhaust off some early 90s bike and put it on newer sportbike...they just look old and cheap compared to most other aftermarket exhausts out there.

That's my two cents anyway...

I think Vance & Hines are more concerned about the Harley and metric cruiser market nowadays. They and Muzzy now run (Harley & Buell, respectively )drag race teams and they seem to have faded from the collective sportbiking consciousness.

Get a Termignoni for that Yammi. That's what's on Vale and Colin's YZR-M1. You can be like The Doctor and/or the Texas Tornado.

Well... sorta.

Do they really make Termignoni slip-ons? I've seen that on the Gauloises Fortuna Racing Team bikes (#46/#5); is that like Polini pipes as well kinda just built for racing bikes?

Sure.

Termignoni is an Italian exhaust manufacturer. Probably most noted for their close association with Ducati. They also make stuff for the other marques.

leo vince best for the money, great craftsmanship, good gains, priced like yosh or 2 bros, if you are down for dropiping big money, Sato, Arata, Ackro. but if you are going to spend that kind of money you may as well buy a full system. oh yeah Graves is good if you don't mind the noise.

The D&D slip ons are not that bad.  They are among the loudest, but the on I had on my 99 R6 (came on the bike) sounded good.  And nobody ever told me differently.  The exhaust was not new (maybe as old as the bike) so I cannot say how good the newer ones are.  The one that SR tested looked nothing like the one I had on my bike.

In our May issue we tested a new D&D pipe, that was a lot quieter than the one we tested in the Oct. comparison test. Made the same power too. The quieter pipe is an option for all the side-mount slip-ons they make.
