So the question is...bike or rider...Rossi has shown his talent and did a darn good job on a unfamiliar track (Laguna). He made both those guys earn their spots on the box... Put him on a Suzuki, that's what I say! The truly greats are just a step above and "The Doctor" is a prime example of this. Now that Hayden has his first victory outta the way he most likely will be stepping it up a bit. The rest of the season could be very interesting.

They go hand in hand at the pro level. The best riders usually find a way to get themselves onto the best bike(s).
Rossi is so good, he just needed a more difficult challenge. And now, what was the 2nd best bike can hold its own against the Honda.
I hope the rest of the season is more interesting, because from a racing standpoint, the USGP was fairly boring.

I take it that's because you probably weren't there. The coverage on Speed was terrible, with commercials taking the place of the live feed that showed dices going on down the field, including Rossi making up 2 secs on Edwards in the final 4 laps and nearly catching him , plus the Biaggi/Gibernau and Bayliss/Hopkins duels that raged all race long.

Until you actually experience the noise of the MotoGP bikes in person, nothing comes close or does them justice. It's similar to the F1 cars, but on a different level. Put it this way: over the noise of the crowd, PA announcements, etc., you could hear a single MotoGP bike start up in the pits from the opposite side of the track...

Yeah, I'd like to see Rossi ride 2 years for all the MotoGP makes. Help make everyone competitive... Bring Burgess and the rest of the team along... Now that Yamaha is close to Honda, who makes the 3rd best bike in the field? Put Rossi on that. Ducati? Kawasaki?
I was poking around the FIM's website a couple days ago... It seems to indicate that the bikes are going to drop to 900cc for '07. I thought they said 800cc... Does anyone know for sure. I'll try to find the link again and post it.
Oh, I'd put it at 80% rider and 20% bike.

It' 800cc for 2007 onwards.
A street-going GSV-R800, anyone? :P
I don't think this rule will make the MotoGP bikes "safer". All it'll do is make the bikes even more expensive. My wild hunch is they'll eventually make up the lost displacement with higher rpm and even more F1-like engine management wizardry.

Exactly. Most of the manufacturers opposed the change, citing financial and complexity concerns. The main exponent of the change? Honda, who already have several 800cc engine versions up and testing. Traction control has already made its way to Superbike racing.
The hot rumor is that BMW will definitely be entering MotoGP in '07, probably with a triple.

Try this link. Click the second option. I think it says something about 'technical regulations'. Wait for Adobe to load. Scroll down to page 5. It states that for '07 the bikes are going to be 900cc. Is this old? A typo?

It's a typo. The bikes are moving from 990cc to 800cc for '07.

Lowering the displacement of these bikes really doesnt do to much, especially when it comes to safety. A rider can get seriously hurt even by a slow 30 mph crash. What would increase safety in the sport is increased runoff areas, safety upgrades and such, etc., things of that nature. But then again, maybe its the bikes that need the safety stuff. Think about what happened to the late and great Daijiro Kato @ his home track of Suzuka. I believe while fighting amongst the top 10 his fly-by-wire throttle mechanism locked up somehow, careening him into the wall by the Casio Triple chiquane in the latter part of the track. I saw a home video of it and he flew from the impact. Fortunately, I don't think there has been any other fatal injuries or accidents that have occurred in the MotoGP since this, not to mention Suzuka was taken out of the 2005 schedule so it would recieve the proper updating in safety concerns. BTW, anyone know if we'll see a Japanese GP @ Suzuka next year? Or is it still just going to stay at Motegi?

I don't think Suzuka can make the safety changes. They don't have the land to push the armco back at some of the corners in question. For now, it stays off the GP calendar.
It's too bad because I think Suzuka is a historic circuit.

Its too bad Suzuka isn't on calendar this year . Such a great racetrack, my favorite in Moto GP 3.

Hey speaking of MotoGP3, anyone know details of the next in the series? I heard that you can pick even riders in the 250 series, as well as the past riders like Doohan, Kato, etc.?
