Fast Bikes vs. Fast Cars

I am just curious-are the fastest stock production sportscars slower, as fast, or faster than stock production sportbikes in roll-on from say 75 mph on up?  There was a Dodge Viper Twin-Turbo Heffner that raced a Hayabusa Turbo and the Viper won in a video which I saw on the web.  Is anyone familiar with this type of match race?  Or do you think that perhaps this might have be a hoax type video?

The video I saw was at:  www.garyjavo.com...thanks for any input!

The portrayal in the vid is very possible, considering that at speeds from 75 mph+, horsepower and aerodynamics play the major roles, and bikes are at a disadvantage from that standpoint. Even the lowest econobox car has a better aerodynamic coefficient of drag than a Hayabusa, and it's easy for an engine that is 10 times the size of the bike's to crank out more horsepower, especially one with twin turbos. Still, it requires a lot of skill to pilot a bike; I seriously doubt the Hayabusa rider was even close to being on the boost, because he just sat there when the car started accelerating; he should've at least shot forward a few bike lengths due to his superior power/weight ratio, even at that speed. And he's only running 10 psi on "race gas"? Whatever; the video is what it is...the number of times bikes whup on cars is so frequent that people have tired of catching it on video, especially since most of the time people want to catch it from the car's POV (since it's easier than fighting the wind blast), and why would you want to post a vid of your car getting waxed by a bike?

As far as a "production car" being faster than a production bike from a roll at 75 mph, it always depends on what you term "production" with regards to the car. The fastest actual "production" cars from that speed would be the Porsche Turbo or GT, Lamborghini Diablo or Murcielago, Ferrari Enzo, Mercedes SL/CL/C65 or SLR, and probably a slew of other high-dollar autos I've forgotten. Most of these cars are cranking out upwards of 500hp and above, so if you were riding a Suzuki GSX-R1000/Hayabusa/Kawasaki ZX-10R/12R/Yamaha R1 etc. in stock form, you would pull those cars from 75 mph if done correctly. However, they would probably eventually begin catching up around the 150mph mark, because the bike's power-- while substantial for its weight, which is why if you did the acceleration test from any lower speed, you would rapidly disappear into the distance-- would start hitting an aerodynamic wall at that speed, and the acceleration would slow dramatically.

Of course, any acceleration contest from a standing start (which requires infinitely more skill from the pilots of both vehicles, but especially the bike) would be incredibly lopsided in favor of the bike because of its power/weight ratio.

I will now step aside for all the chest pounders who will crow "I smoked a triple turbo nitrous Viper with my EX500..."

Yep.  I agree with just about everything you've typed.  I'd put the catch up speed over 170 mph though...  At 150 mph, my 10R is just clicking into 4th gear.    I have to wonder what gear the bike was in.  It should have pulled away, even against a twin turbo Viper.  Someone on a different forum had a 230 hp 'Busa running on the bottle.  I think he had 180ish without...  He posted a lot of video's, and on the bottle, he used to beat 800+ hp cars all the time.  Kill them actually.  A stock 500hp car would give a 600 fits, but a liter/liter plus shouldn't have too much trouble.  Just need to keep the front wheel on the ground.

Yeah, I've seen numerous vids' of 500hp vettes, mustangs, camaros getting smoked by liter bikes and busas/zx12s.  I believe everyone will agree that in a race from a standing start a stock bike will beat a stock car.  Hell liter bikes run low 10s-high 9s depending on area and rider skill whereas the high dollar cars listed above do mid to low 11s in the 1/4 mile.  Yes top speed will be higher and roll-ons would be close compared to those cars but how often does that fantasy race happen.  As stated before...for high speed its aerodynamics.

Car and Driver actually did a spread in their December 1996 issue pitting, what was at the time, the Americas hottest supercar (the Viper GTS) against a Kawasaki ZX-9.  They ran various acceleration and braking tests including 0-100-0.  The bike smoked it in every test (maybe not braking).
