I just starting wearing Riding boots (joe rocket) but it feels strange to me. I feel like the toe is to big to be quick with shifting..especially downshifting. Does anyone have advice?

What Joe Rockets do you have?  I have Sidi B2 race boots, the first few days I had them, shifting felt different, but not worse (I was wearing tennis shoes before).

Just try to get used to them, boots are worth it.  I have known quite a few people who broke ankles because they didn't have boots on.

Same here, boots are much better. I did have to adjust my shift lever up just a tad to get my toe hooked underneath, but this was more of a personal thing than anything else. I have a pair of Alpinestars and I don't like riding in any other footwear now. I put Bear Grease (a type of waterproofer) on my boots and they softened up quicker. Otherwise just walk around in them for a while. Break in is worth the safty factor.

I bought a pair of Tourmaster RoadResponse shorties.  My calves are too big for normal boots, but these fit well.  I've been wearing them around to help break them in.  So far, they are quite comfy.

This is the way like it feels protection.
There is a way to feel confort on the street riding boots, just wear first, just for 5 minuts a mx boots, then you will be fine on street riding ones.

I hear ya. I bought a pair of Alpinestars boots last year. I don't know if I would call it uncomfortable as much as I would different. The good news is they broke in quickly. I tried adjusting my shift lever and changing up my foot position but after they were broke in I just put the shift lever back where it was and didn't bother to pay attention to my foot position anymore. Just give them time. It's like Garth said in Wayne's World. "It's like a new pair of underwear, at first it's restrictive and then it becomes a part of you."
