I've been riding for about 15 years now and finally started to learn how to wheelie. After a friend of mine got me into sportbikes, I wasn't really into doing tricks. Ive always been drawn into the out right performance of these bikes. Anyway, a friend of mine at work showed me the basics and I've been trying to learn by myself. Finally pulled a few ( what i consider decent) good wheelies. Popped 'em up in second at about 40 and set 'em down just over 100. Hard to guage distance so I use what speed I can ride it past. It's been hard getting used to the feeling' but today they started to feel ok. Just had to share it.

Nice job. Want a real thrill? Do a track day. The first time you hear that puck scrap.....it's music to my ears anyway. Took me all of 15yrs to do my first day. Wish I'd done one when I was younger. And if you already have, Congrats on being a brother.

Wheelies are not a trill, and they are not to show off either...
Beside, Track Days are for guys who can not wheelie... LOL Just kidding!
Anyone can use a little clutch and throttle to bring the front end up 24" inches off the ground.
Learning how to do high wheelies slower with out running out of RPMs and go for the distance is a very good thing.
You can learn a lot from wheelies... I have learn Precise Throttle Control. I have learn Rear Brake use. And I have better Balance.

Congrats on your progress. i wish i could say the same for myself i can't get pass the whole being scared thing or going back to far. i usually power my grand up in 1st going like 25 and it comes up no problem as soon as i get about 2 ft up that's it my nerves kick in and down my tire goes. i have been doin this same thing for about 7 months now and its just pathetic. I am going to try what you said about second gear when i get off ship. but if you can throw me any tips that would be great. if you have time email me at sgtkilla360@yahoo.com

There is a pretty good how to wheelie video on you tube. I think it was done by superbike magazine. Just search "how to wheelie". Careful if you decide to use the clutch. It can come up pretty quick. Hope this helps.

Keep in mind, every guy that is seasoned in wheelies has also eaten pavement. Honestly trackdays are fun, but to have track guys chime in on wheelies is pure arrogance. I have sick wheelie skills, but there is a price to pay to get there. Every new move you make has an inherant risk. You either pull it off or you dont. If you must wheelie, do sitdowns first then do standups. Most crashes from wheelies are guys not covering their rear brake when doin it. Also when the go past 12 o'clock they hang from the bars, causing wideopen throttle, then your a goner. Very small steps is all I can say. There is no telling you how to do it, its all feel & common sense.Picking up the wheel at low rpm's allow the bike to come into the powercurve & put you on your ass. If your near the end or the rpm's there wont be any suprises from the powercurve & simply letting off throttle will bring the wheel down. Thats all the appetite I'll give you. Dont think its just fun & games, you can go fun the most fun in your life to the most pain in a split second

"Trix are for kids" Just had to say it because it is funny. I have lots of respect for stunters and do a roll on myself from time to time only on private propery of course
There are worse things than death cowardice is one of them.
